it may be that the motor is too rich, and thus isnt getting into high enough rpms.
id check that 1st.
I believe there is also a set screw in the trans that will adjust the shift point. I think ive seen a youtube vid showing how to do this.
but id mess with the carb's high speed needle 1st. to rich or too lean, and the motor wont spin fast enough for the tranny to shift.
I once blew the mind of some kids that had a t-maxx 3.3
they had it so rich, that it wouldnt shift into 2nd gear....thus it only did about 25mph. They didnt even know it had a second gear, or that it wasnt tuned right.
I made a simple high speed needle adjustment and when that baby hit second gear and picked up another 15mph the kids got huge smiles on their faces
