You just could have gotten a bad ESC. Call Redcat and tell them, maybe they will give you another one for free.

Default RE: esc burned?

that battery exceeds the voltage/runtime capabilities of that ESC.

the volcano epx Pro has a brushless motor/esc which can handle a 2s lipo. But the brushed version's esc can only handle 7.2v. A fully charged 2s lipo is 8.4v Also, the sticker on the chassis says not to exceed 3000mah. Doing so provides runtimes longer than the ESC can handle (heat builds up more and more with added runtime)

I happen to have a stock ESC I pulled from a lighting STX, if you need one, Ill sell it cheap.

Other options are looking for a used traxxas xl-5 or losi 12t esc on ebay. Ive seen them at fairly low cost used. Those will handle the 2s lipo. But note, even with a better esc...2s lipo will shorten the life of the stock motor.

thats my bad...in that thread I thought you had an epx pro (brushless version) which will take a 2s lipo no problem. The brushed version's esc cant handle as much voltage.
you could grab this esc for $25
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOSI-NIGHT-C...item4ac3ae86c2

I know it says its from a rock crawler, but the losi 12t esc has 4 driving modes, one of which is for rock crawling. The other modes are for normal driving and its the same ESC that comes in the losi short course truck. It will handle the stock motor and a 2s lipo no problem. It also has low voltage detection...so no risk of overdraining your lipo battery.

ALSO, have you checked the car since running it last? I think that esc has a thermal shutdown (will stop working if it overheats, but work again after it cools)
If you have the stock batt, use it to check and see if the truck works now.
If not, the losi 12t esc...or a traxxas xl-5 will work.

Default RE: esc burned?

Can I use a glacier lipo, 2c, 5300mAh, 35c, battery in the stock setup (35 amp esc) redcat caldera sc 10e, without changes or problems with the fan, motor, esc, etc.?

Thanks in advance. I am a 57 year old that ie going through his 2nd (maybe 3rd) childhood and things have really changed since I was racing my Associated RC 10 in the 80's!

yes, all of the redcat 1/10 Brushless models can run a 2s lipo out of the box. Running a brushless motor on a nimh battery is like running a drag car on pump gas. Putting in a 2s lipo will really wake up the motor and show its full potential.

Brushed motors can be run on a 2s lipo but it shortens their life. I got 10 or 15 2s packs thew my brushed SC10 before the motor started to lose power.

Most brushed ESC's can handle 2s lipo power. But in the case of the brushed EPX models, the ESC will not handle 2s lipo for long. I have done it, but I had a better ESC ready to install incase the stock one burnt up.

Sorry again shemesh for not reading your 1st post more closely. for the EPX models, a 7.2v nimh must be used. One with more MAH can be run, but not more voltage. A 2s lipo is more voltage. The only way to use a 2s lipo in the EPX is to replace the ESC.

if you wanna stick with a brushes setup...Id look for a used traxxas XL-5 or Losi 12t esc. Either can be found used on ebay for around $25-$40 shipped.

um,
maybe the tazer 15t?

a duratrax sprint esc would work. the tazer, xl-5 or losi 12t are much more worth the money IMO...but the sprint is still a step above the stock one. the others would only cost alittle more and are several steps above the stock esc.

only one of those is for brushed motors, it was 9.99...but is out of stock.
Rest are for brushless motors.
The turnigy 60a V2 I have had. for $30 its a good brushless ESC. combine it with a cheap 3300kv brushless motor and thats a low priced brushless combo.

here is basically the same as stock, $15 : http://www.ebay.com/itm/HSP-03018-32...item2a1ece0862

xl5 for $37: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-XL-5...item4ac48c77ce

tazer 15t for $30: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DYNAMITE-Taz...item19dc71d7f8
