i was told 30% would be ok in a .18 engine by my LHS. What are the cons of 30%?

From what I understand is that with the higher nitro content the motor is put under higher stress/ heat and can cause early wear out of piston and sleeve (if the motor is not "built" to run this fuel)
Most of us run only 20%----it is alot cheaper than a new motor---I'm not knocking the motors in these redcats but we have really not seen many specs on them.
I'm gonna play it on the safe side.

Blue thunder 20% nitro works really well. It has a anti leaning
agent to protect your engine from harmful overleans.

I run 15% in both my truck and my kyosho beetle and it seams to work just fine, i don't race or really bash on them either so... haven't had a problem with it and been running it in my kyosho beetle for the last year.

higher nitro contant will increase performance, but the motor wears out a bit quicker, i use trinity 20% w/ 16% oil contant, i run superchargers and nitrous ,, and my engines are holding up fine, both are red cat engines >.18 and .28 , 15% is a great sport fuel and easy on your engine .

traxxas fuel has too much oil, it will make your one way slip. and do the superchargers really work on these engines?

No. is the simple answer on both nitrous and a supercharger. Do a search an youll see a lot of information to back this up. In regards to fuel I have Odonnell 30% and traxxas 20%. They amount of additional "wear" youd get from 30 as aposed to 20 is neglible at best the same can be said for the average user in the performance area using the higher content.Sure youll see an hear a little difference but not "night and day". In short its really not worth it to bother unless your running a modified motor and you race. If not run 20% youll be just as happy with it.
