you should use 1.5 alkaline batteries in both. Rechargable batteries are 1.2 volts so you do loose a few volts over a couple of batteries. the transmitter should still light up though. i would suggest putting some alkaline in the car and transmitter and see what happens. the redacats are kinda known for bad radio systems but they do make good on it as long as it hasnt been over 30 days. I would suggest buying a new radio system though, like futaba or jr.

Or go with the spektrum and you dont have to worry about am or fm interferring with you when driving.

Hey, never heard of the spektrum before, but after doing some reading on it I'm assuming it uses essentially the same technology that cordless phones use? I've also read that certain products like fail safes don't work with them. Other than the apparent benefit of not having to carry around a few extra crystals and the fact that they look pretty bad ass, what other advantage do they offer?

I think the best thing they say about them is the frequencies. YOu can go anywhere and dont have to worry about interference.

the futaba for $50 is fine for these cars, you will need to save your money for buying gears and clutch springs.

radios in my opinon depend on were you live as for me im about 15 miles out of town so an am radio works just great for me but if you live closer to businesses and stuff ive heard alot of times you get interference from other signals so good luck on your purchase whatever it might be
