I thought so too? Maybe he got one just before the swap from someone's inventory?
Anyway, yes there are plenty of alternatives out there. Get a hardened steel one, check out www.clermontmotorsports.com or www.allaboutfunhobbies.com
They have the best prices, best service, and fastest shipping around!

and this hpi setup for a clutch bell:
upgrade your 2 speed clutch bell to: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXCLR2&P=K + http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXDHM0&P=K + http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXCLR9&P=K
you may need to widdle away a little of the upper plate post so the gears clear it
upgrade to this clutch spring while you have the clutch bell off:
traxxas 4146x : http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=++&search3=Go

All the 1/10th scale models have cast aluminum clutch bells, the 1/8th scales have machined hardened steel clutch bells. The problem with the aluminum ones is that when they get hot they warm and strip out your spur gear, the gear on the clutch bell also wears out VERY fast and will strip out your spur gears, the aluminum clutch shoes wear out the inside of the clutch bell uber fast too, clutch shoe spring is week and breaks easily.

the reason it usually the out of round aluminum clutch bell (stock), you need to upgrade to an hpi setup, its all in the faq thread on top (sticky).

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
now i am going to buy one of these cars, either the tremor or the xp.
what i think is happening is that the two speed is absent of the important slipper clutch. like all you know the slipper well, slips if there is excess torq on the drive tran. when your driving your car off road the gears are subjected to diferating pressure, this pressure is highest when jumping, accelerating or during the second gear transition. when you mix cheap plastic with no slipper and high torq you are asking for trouble.
i belive the gearbox was developed for the on road cars because the terrain is flat and is not subjected to massive load, they figured to give everybody two speed and keep the cost of desighning down.
so, i would only get the single speed tranny, just put in a spur with less teeth.
when i get a car im going to swap the spur with a traxxas (if capatible) traxxas makes a strong gear.

just to clarify. The NEW single speeds are steel silver. You have to use a magnet to see for sure if you have steel or aluminum.

if its silver, its aluminum, if its black, its steel

the xl is a 1/10 buggy and it has a steel clutch bell and upgraded clutch shoes and spring, the tremor is a 1/16th, totally different.
