OK...do you think people would want to pay another $50 per car just for a hardened steel clutchbell and spur? I honestly DOUBT it...plus, aside from on 1/8 buggies...I absolutely DETEST steel spurs because they only mask a bigger underlying problem.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
An HPI 15t steel clutchbell is $10.99 @ Tower Hobbies. My retail cost. Wholesale is probably half that or less. Thats all Redcat needs to do for much better spur gear life. That alum slipper gear NEEDS to be something else. plastic, steel something else. If these changes are made I think the single speed trans would be near perfect for what it is. I can't see this adding $50 to the truck cost! Maybe $15. The bell is made already so no design work and the alum slipper is a simple gear to produce. It's very discouraging when you run 4 tanks of fuel and your changing your broken clutch spring and you see those worn teeth on that Aluminum clutchbell.[&o]

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I am now using hpi clutchbell (17 teeth from savage #A991) and unfortunately spur is wearing as hell. At firts distance from clutch to spur i perfect, 1 - 2 tanks and spur is already worn (teeth are getting thinner). I dont know what it is made of, but looks like some really crappy plastic. And one more thing, all hpi cars have slipper cliutch to avoid too much torque on spur gear, maybe this would save a spur to last at least 2litres of fuel ...

could you imagine what a hardened steel 2 speed CB would cost?!?
CU, i've become well aware of what the problem is...it's just a matter of finding another supplier now.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hi
I stripped my gears in just 9 tanks of fuel. I blew my exhaust and changed it see my gears get ripped in just 15 min.
Its the the 06032 ( bigger gear) that has gone.
Is there anyway to protect the gears..??
Has anyone changed these gears opening the Moderate gear set ? Any pictures pl.
The quality is pure Junk. Any alternatives available ?
Thank you

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Actually I have a quick question. Anyone know what size bearing fits in the clutchbell? I busted the bearing trying to get it out of the old one.
Thanks.
Nevermind, I just measured the bearing, it's 10x5x4
Thanks.

Actually anyone know where I can get those bearings cheap? I just ran into homedepot and they didn't carry them.
Anyone know of a place online or anything like that? Thanks.

www.clermontmotorsports.com. p/n 02080 you'll get 8 of them. They are also the outer wheel bearing and the differential bearings. I don't think you'll find them easy and cheaper.

Chubbs, 02080 is a bronze bushing... it's the right size but it's not a ball bearing.
I'm not sure of the part number also but Pop 5x10x4 is the right size. You should be able to pick one up at your LHS.
I have a few lying around, how many do you need? I can put a stamp on one for ya but LHS would get you going sooner.
Mark
part number is 02139, I don't have any right now so check with clermont.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey, this is a little off topic but this threads kinda been known to wander a little so why not. But anyways, whats the difference between a metal shielded bearing and a rubber sealed bearing?
From what I've read so far the metal bearings are capable of higher rpm but aren't as good at keeping dirt out where as the rubber ones can't go as fast but work better at keeping stuff out.
Here's a link to the two different ones:

What would be better for our cars?
I'm thinking maybe rubber for our wheels and differentials because the rpms aren't as high but they're exposed to more dirt and maybe metal on the clutch bell?

I personally run rubber sealed bearings everywhere but the crank bearings on an engine, because I'm lazy and I hate cleaning bearings.
