Throttle Problem
I just got my volcano stx im new to the hobby and i was wondering how you set the throttle and brake. mine when i use the brake it closes the carb to far and it kills the motor i was wondering if i need a softer spring or what thanks.

first start from the control trims. on your controler you can find two buttons, one of them is the throtle trim. adjust that so it brings the accelerator to a neutral position. also. when you aply the brakes, the carb should remain at idle position, so adjust the spring on the accelerator and re-adjust the idle screw...

center the throttle trim, then open (turn clockwise) the idle screw (small screw with spring under air filter) until there is a 1/8 inch opening, start it up and see if it run but not moving. if its to high, turn idle screw counter clockwise until its good.

what happens is ill be going then when i aplie the brake it bulls the throttle rod back to far and kills the motor would the idle screw help with that

It should. It should idle under full braking. the idle screwis under the air filter facing the front of the car it should hold the idle under the spring tension while braking. If it happens to start stalling under braking it could also be a broken clutch spring. but you will have trouble starting and the car will want to take off once you do get it started.OH when I got my Volcano the brake adjustment was way off. tighten the thumbscrew on the brake linkage with the servo in the idle position so the piece of tubing is just contacting the brake arm. Turn the controls on and do it on a flat surface. pushing the truck by hand on the ground I adjusted the brake so it had no drag in idle postion but would lock the wheels when braking. this keeps the backward pressure on the spring to a minimum. Yes i finally figured it out it is the clutch spring i have got a new one but how do you connect the ends is there a pin or do you just hook the two ends to each other

You've got to hook the two loops together.[X(] My clucth spring broke and I repaired it by bending the broken end into a loop and rehooking it. IT IS A PAIN! My eyes ain't so good and the spring is small. Small tools and a magnifying glass help.

No Problem.. BTW I fixed my clutch spring twice. The first time my loop was kinda shaky and it broken after 2 tanks, 2nd time I used a magnifiyer and took my time and knock wood it's on about 8-10 tanks and still going. So don't throw the old one out![X(] I keep a spare clutch on hand but I'll try to get the most from the old.

I've had no luck with trying to reuse the stock spring. I'm happy for/jealous of you but mine lasted 1 1/2 tanks initially and only one more tank after my repair job. Those Traxxas springs have treated me good, though.

Did you move the alum stops on the linkage? with the car and control in the on position. giveit throttle and brake then let it go to "neutral" position. there shouldn't be any resistance on the spring on the linkage and the front stop should be just against or slighty in front of the servo arm. also make sure before you move anything your throttle trim is centered on you hand control. 2 small knobs 1 for steering correction 1 for throttle correction just piont the small line straight up.

i dont know if this is right but when i use the break the spring has tension the it hits the alum. stops and pulls the rod back even farther pulling the carb shut and killing the motor ive tried the idle screw and that dont work either i was wondering if a shorter or softer spring would be better

Try tightening the brake linkage. there's a thumbscrew on the brake linkage. with the throttle set like in the pic there should be little to no slack in that link. the little piece of tubing should just be starting to pull the brakes on. you could move the rear alum stop back a little to reduce the backward tension on the link to the carb. My brakes were really loose out of the box. if the servo has to pull to far back to actuate the brake it'll pull back too hard on the carb linkage. you could really tighten that link to the brake and when you release the thottle to idle the brakes will come on and stop or slow the truck.

Here's the truck. 1st @ Full throttle 2Nd @ idle and 3rd full brake. 4th is closeup of the thumb screw. I've got about 1/4" on link rod stickin out. OH see the little set screw that holds the brake arm to the top of the brake assembly? take it out and put Blue loctite on it and retighten it. I moved the link out alittle to get access to the on/off switch. If that screw falls out you're beat. Also loctite the set scews on the drivelines/ front and rear.

i finally got mine working but now i was wondering if the electric starter for a traxxas will work on the volcano i just have the stock motor
