Redcat 1/8th .28 SH engine/and racing.
Just wondering since I notice most people either have the kits that came with the .21 or .27 trinity, anyone have any experiance with the .28? The specs look decent for a RTR. Just wondering what peoples opinions are of this engine? Is my kit an older kit or is this the newer engine stocked in the RTR's.
I haven't gotten mine in the mail yet, so I'm just wondering what people think about it.
And as for a side question, any tips to set this buggy up for novice or intermeadiate racing? Things I should invest into, besides a radio? (Probably going with the Spektrum DX2, for price and function).
All tips and advice would be great for a newbie.

RE: Redcat 1/8th .28 SH engine/and racing.
Hello
I have been running a Himoto Torpeda with a .28 SH Engine for over 3 months now.
Has a good 5 gallons of fuel gone trough.
Performance is great.
Starting is excellent ( pull-start config )
Problems encountered with the engine up to know.
Pull-start screws came loose on 3 occasions (initially during breakin)
Head screws came loose once ( my error i had forgotten to re-check my screws)
Pull-start knot in handle broke ( after 4 1/2 gallons)
Up to know i have used 6 glow plugs ( incl break-in period)
Very satisfied.
Note: I have tried a single chamber HPI Savage pipe on the engine; outcome =overheated and performance suffered.

RE: Redcat 1/8th .28 SH engine/and racing.
My birthday just came early today.
All I can say is, wow.. This engine is freaking massive in size. My last nitro buggy was an old .12 traxxas nitro buggy. I thought at the time it was large, but when I see this thing Im like holy crap.

When you first start this engine keep the initial settings for at least 2 tanks, and dont drive to hard, it will be very rich and it will have a particularly loud gushing sound from the exhaust.
Mine had the sound of a snowmobile engine at first, then after the breakin period it will sound more like a motocross engine.
Watch your pull-start cover screws, they tend to loosen. (blue loc-tite)
I have also sealed the rear pull start bushing in the back cover with moto-seal ( fuelproof engine base sealer)
Dont overrev this engine too much or you will crap your plug. I tended to overrev it over jumps and then it would just stall after a few jumps and finally figured that i was overreving it.
Have fun these engines scream power.
BTW i use "O" rings for the exauhst header connection ;-)
