Default revs high off the start???????

I just got a new volcano sv and i have had it for 4 days. the firt day i had it i had to replace the clutch spring, after that it was fine for about 3 days. now when you hit the gas hard it revs up and stars off slow about 5-8 mps. if you ease on the gas then it will get up to speed fine. if you hold the truck off the ground ad hit the gas it turns the tired no porblem. so my thinking is that it is the clutch shoes. this is my first nitro so im not really sure whats going on. could come one give me a heads up? THANKS!!!

Well depending on how much gas you have run through it, it might be normal...maybe a little too rich. Its not gonna go 40+ the second you hit the trigger....Its like flooding the engine, but a little different, nit quite sure how to explain it. [&:]

Really?? it idles fine, i thought if the spring is bad it wont idle because the shoes sling out and are engaged.

traxxas 4146x, comes with shoes, dont use them just use the spring, have had it for months and i have no problem on my volcano.

sounds like your clutch spring is too tight, wont let the shoes grab.

i have the 4146x in all 3 redcats that i have and i have no problems. I also have been using the stock shoes, did you use the shoes that came with the spring??? If so they are too small. Maybe the clutch shoes are worn down.

I am not having any problems with the traxxas 4146x spring but I did notice my clutch shoes are worn out of round. Is this normal? Worn down to an oval shape.

ok i just took it apart and its in perfect shape, so i put it back together and cranked it up and held it in place and its the big black gear that is slipping. its the gear that is being turned by the bell. which gear is that and can i just replace it or what??

The part number for that gear is 68311. You can just replace it. I would actually recommend it, that way you'll learn a lot about your tranny and how it works.

Did you try tightining the nut on the side of the gear?

The prebuilt diff gear set is part #08013

And if you want to rebuild the gears, part #08033

Yes.... Futubaed and Ehroof are right on on this. The slipper clutch is too loose. Tighten the 14mm nut up on the right of the big gear to apply more tension on the spring. Hey.. Futuba Ed those pics are nasty! LOL[sm=wink_smile.gif]

i pulled the gear out and tightend the nut on the slipper gear and it fixed the problem so thanks guys!, BUT it made it about 1/2 way threw a tank and the freaking new clutch spring i put in it like 3 days ago broke. i have only had this thing a week and already have broken 2 clutch springs and the slipper gear and all i have done is drive it down the damn street. is this normal?? im tired of driveing 30 miles to the nearest hobby shop to buy springs!!

i am suprised about the clutch spring, the traxxas spring is a good fit for it, make sure its 4146x. besides the spur gear stripping my volcano is pretty good.

Wow,
The traxxas springs seem to last awhile.
Make sure there are no sharp edges inside the clutch bell or where the spring wraps around the clutch shoes.

the old spring broke where you connect it so i recurved what waz left and then connected it back and the closed the ends closed. i put it back in and drive a tank threw it and so far is holding. should i just replace it or just run that one till it craps out again?
