Default RE: stripped gears help!! :(

i just replaced the nylon diff gear and the aluminum small gear behind it in that box and everything went back the way it came off but it doesnt roll as easy as it did... i dont know if its because of the new gears....? its not because of the engine because i rolled it before i put the engine back on it. all the bearings and everything are in place and everything so i dont understand. the big nylon gear that has the spring behind it sort of wobbles a tad but i think its because of 4 little prongs on the back of it.. (on the old one they were wore down to nothing) so im sort of scared to fire it up and run it to see what happens... i took like 3-4 looks at it and its right as far as how i took it off... i just dont understand.. any suggestions?

you could try to oil it up a bit. itll lubricate it and hopefully roll easier.

alright, just took it for a spin... it rolls freely now but it wont move due to the big gear spinning on the shaft. my question is how do i tighten that spring up behind the big gear to keep it from moving?

i dont have a volcano but there should be some type of screw that can be tightened. you might need to take some stuff apart to get to it. hope you get it workin!

thanks sooo much.... so i take it that it wasnt a fixed nut on the shaft i guess it was threaded.. when i took it apart i did not mess with it because i thought it was part of the shaft... but thanks again guys i just compressed the spring and the gear doesnt move i havnt tried to run it yet but im sure it will do fine because it still rolls fine when u push it... gear mesh seems fine also... im gonna wait till i get a better clutch spring to do the clutchbell on the engine so i dont have to take it apart twice.. but thanks!

Hi,

The same thing happened to me with my Nitro Volcano SV Truck. Does anyone know which screws are for the bottom part of the truck. The part that holds the engine in place? My gear is stripped to.

Thanks!

Same thing happened to us on our Volcano SV. Breaking in the engine the first tank was fine and then we noticed that it took more throttle to get the truck to move and then it wouldn't move at all. Upon inspection we found that the main transmission gear melted itself to the shaft but by then it was too late. This is the first Nitro we have owned and I had no idea about these things.
By the looks of it there are several people here having this same problem. I hope this isn't a trend! I ordered the gear set and it comes pre-assembled with the large gear and the smaller gear already mounted on the shaft. I will give the nut a good tighten in hopes it doesn't slip again.

differential gear or spur gear, the spur gear is the large black plastic gear that meshes with the clutch bell on the engine.

go to the clutch bell upgrade sticky on top of the forum and get that, clermont has a 17t one with bearings at a good price, that will stop your problem.
