Default Engine Swap Questions

Just wondering if the HPI Nitro Star K4.6 would fit my Tornado BB Pro without too much mods? Or what would be the BEST option for upgrading engines?

that has a rear exhaust and wont work on the redcats, you need a side exhaust

i dont think you would have to do that, you may need to trim the body but i dont think so, besides that it will bolt right in and you will be very happy with it and its not that much money, make sure you upgrade the clutch bell too so you dont rip the gears.

I was talking about with that rear exhaust motor. For some reason, I think the more power, the better, but I should get used to the car first ehh?

i dont think the car is setup to use a rear exhaust motor, theres not enough room behind it, it would be a good idea to use it a little first, the .18 that comes with the redcat isnt a slouch.

Yeah, I got the Pro model, so it has the Team Infinity Motor in it, it says it will do 65, but I am sure that is with pure Nitro and the upgrades?

Also, I was wondering if a motor with a round exhaust outbore is better than the retangular one? It seems like the air flow is retricted with the retangular. But who am I to say?

you can use a different header, something for an hpi .15 should work, i put one in my hpi rs4 3 evo and it bolted up to the os engine, just make sure its for the same side exhaust. that engine all aboutfun posted is nice but its not as powerful as the os .18, its good for racing since thats the size engine allowed. Also that sts engine has a slide carb and you need a rotary one. I was looking to get the .28 sts for my hurricane

Well hopefully they will have a class with the .18 here in Cali. If not, I guess I am buying a new engine!

i looked at the engine and it said it needs 5-30% nitro. and no less than 18% oil content. does that mean no traxxas 33% or does traxxas 33% have enough oil?

the amount of oil content used is debatable really. Some people prefer more oil than others whilst others do not. Some engines prefer less than others and some do not. You'd able to get way with using 33% but just use more care and I'd say that your engine(or any engine) will need to be shimmed for that % of nitro. This reduces the engine's compression, otherwise you risk premature engine wear.
