I have put a traxxas 2.5R on my volcano. All I need to finish(i think) is a clutch bell that will fit the motor, but will fit into the tranny gear. I that one but it doesn't mess together. Thanks Jeff

How does the 2.5R compare to the stock .18 engines? I thought the 2.5s were cubic centimeters versus the .18s being cubic inches. And I thought the 2.5 was actually equivalent to a .15. Is that true? And what is the 2.5R versus the older 2.5? Is the R rated for higher RPMs or something? Is a smaller displacement engine necessarily less power? Or can it be more? I have an SH18 on mine, but I also have a Traxxas 2.5 and an OS18 available.

The 2.5R turns 50,000 RPMS. The .18 only turns about 37,000 RPMS. I want to buy a an OS.18 to try out also, I know the 2.5R revs crazy fast because of the slide carb.

I have the 3.3 and it is awesome The diffrence between the 2.5 and 2.5R is that the 2.5R has a blue head and is ported diffrent than the 2.5 so it has more RPM and a little more HP- 1.5 on the 2.5R and 1.3 on the 2.5[8D]

I didnt check the Traxxas Website, but 50 k Rpm sounds way too high to me....
A lot of folks use the OS.18 engine in Tmaxx n Revos as an upgrade and they dont spin that fast either.

BK......
THE 2.5 is just a Traxxas Model #. It doesnt denote actual engine size. I was told in the Revo forum that the 2.5r is about .18 and the 3.3 is about .20 -.21 (depending on who you Ask).

3.0cc = .18ci
3.3cc = .20ci

and 50,000 rpm is a little over the best they make for RC cars [&:]

I guess I could have taken the time to read myself. The following is taken from the [link=http://www.traxxas.com/PDF-Library/TRX33_manual.pdf]TRX Racing Engines Owners Manual[/link].

Terms to Know
You’ll find these Nitro R/C engine terms
throughout this section of the manual.

.15 - .15 or “15†refers to the displacement of
the engine. The TRX 2.5 Racing Engine is .15
cubic inches or 2.5 cubic centimeters (cc). The
name “TRX 2.5†is derived from the cc
measurement.
.20 - .20 or “20†refers to the size of the engine.
The TRX 3.3 is .20 cubic inches or 3.3 cubic
centimeters (cc). The name “TRX 3.3†is
derived from the cc measurement.

The 2.5R is a rear exhaust, but regarding revs, I have not found any specifics about 2.5R versus 2.5. There are general comments in the Traxxas site that say the 2.5R is higher revving, but no numbers are given. They do say the normal rpm for a 15 pro is 27-30,000. So it would seem that the 50,000 is exaggerated as rclynx implies.

Thank u for the info to clarify things[8D]but if u hang out in the traxxas forum[i do because thats what I have] everyone says that the 2.5 is 50,000 rpm

I have actually talked to aTraxxas guy, he says that 2.5r will rev to 50,000, he said when it came out it was one of the 1st one to rev like that for a rc car use.

Its just like a real engine, SBC 327 will rev higher than a BBC 454....stock engines, shorter stroke quicker and higher revs. But but can be built to do amazing things Jeff

your making a comparison about this like the rpm's from a 327 and a 454 are a couple thousands difference. fyi- the 327 sbc stock will redline at about 5200 rpm. the 454 stock redline is about 5000 rpm. not that big of a difference at all. to me that 50,000 rpm sounds extremely high to me but it wouldn't be the first time an exaggeration happened.

Reline doesn't mean that where it stopps reving, I know for a fact a stock 327 will twist up to 6900-7000. I build race engine all the time. Im bought a opt. rpm gun I'll find out what a 2.5r turns.

i know what redline is i'm a gm certified technichian and have built numerous race engines myself. but your saying a stock 327 sbc will stay together at 6500-7000 rpm? you must have some different sbc's than the ones gm built because the valves will float and the engine will only rev so high before it destroys itself. and 50,000 rpm seems too high for a little engine like that but i may be wrong on that.

yeah no way. maybe close to 40,000 under no load but 50,000 is near impossible
