If you go too big you will go through clutches faster then gas. I did the same thing with my hurricane. I put the big truck tires on with the wheel extensions and literally only made it through a half a tank of gas and the clutch was gone.

What is the gearing size of the single speed clutch bell? Are there others that will work?

I was looking through redcats website and found three different single speed gear sets part #'s 02126, 05126 and 08023. Does anyone know what size gears are on each? They are for the lightning, tornado xl and volcano. I threw that trx3.3 in a victory hawk truck and holy crap! It pulls around 45mph in first which is fast enough for offroad so I want to swap it to the single speed. Just want to know sizes for gearing possibilities.

Hey, I have a Volcano and a Tornado BB. I just bought a TRX 2.5R engine. It came with a 20T clutch bell. Can someone explain to me how this works??? The higher the tooth count makes it have more top in or more bottom end.
I haven''t decided which car Im gonna put it on yet....

The biggest easy swap would be the os 21tm. It will take a little modification though. It has a slide carb so you will need to use a L shaped arm on the throttle servo and buy a roto start for the trx3.3. It would be easier to just use the trx3.3 though and it has tons of power. Just buy the multi-shaft version. Besides that the 3.3 is around $100 less then the 21tm.

Bigger bell or smaller tranny gears = more top end but less torque
smaller bell or bigger tranny gears = more low-end torque but lower top speed
Haven''t tried the 2.5 but the trx3.3 rocks. Even makes the 18cv-rx look slow.

os 18cv-rx 1.35@33,000rpms
os 18tz-tx 1.8@34,000rpms
trx3.3 ?????????????? I would put it side by side with the 18tz but you can actually get a rotostart for the 3.3..
If the engine you get has a slide carb instead of rotary all you need is an L shaped servo arm for the throttle. If your worried about too much flex in the chassis just cut a piece of carbon fiber around 3"x3" and mount it between the engine and chassis.

The 18cv-rx is around $110 and the 18tz-tx is $150. It''s worth the extra $40 for another 1/2hp. The trx3.3 is around $155. I usually go through Omnimodels on ebay. Never had a problem and fast shipping.

I think the lightning has 42t and the tornado has 44t. Looking for more low end? I would just find the smallest bell I could with the tornado gear. I'm not sure on the gear size on the single speed. If it's the same as the two speed it's 1m gearing. Better try Ehroof or someone for a "for sure" answer before you buy parts.

Yea I want a lot of low end torque. I don't need top speed as much because I mostly run off road, up hilly area and all, so not much need for a rocket

I am right now attempting to replace a gear. How do I undo the allen screws? They are too tight.

Thanks.

allen screws in the drive cups? They usually put some loc-tite or a similar thread lock on them. Sometimes heating them up works.

Make sure your allen wrench is always in good shape too. Otherwise you'll strip them out left and right.

Heat with? Worried about melting casing.

Thanks.

Also, to replace the entire thing - what part number is it? 06034 or 02076?

Well, sadly I heated it with a lighter, used an allen wrench of the correct size, and stripped the screw one turn. Now I am about to buy a whole new thing. Should I get 2 speed or 1 speed? Also, if going with 1 speed for more torque, any other mods on the car needed?

Thanks.

shouldn't need to modify anything for it. Just get the bell and tranny and your good to go. I have stripped tons of those stupid set screw too. Not fun! Hopefully they will start making them out of a stronger metal. Titanium would rock!
