RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey thanks for the tips fellas. I got some 30W oil from the LHS and did my shocks. Taking them apart i found 1 slightly bent which i straightened and noticed that al 4 of the shocks were empty.. ya out of the box NO OIL in them.. was kinda discouraged. but after some trial and error, i ended filling them all, almost all way full with about 1 mm from the top. in my bumpy grassy yard it handles 100x better!
Im glad i could ask you pros as i am having much more fun with my shockwave now that it handles so well. THANKS!
PS im still using the largest shock spacers that it came with full filled shocks with 30w oil, and it handles better to me with the large spacers than it does without the spacers.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
ok heres a noob question.. when u start the engine are u supposed to tune the idle so that the wheels dont spin when its on the ground or off the ground? i cant get em to stop when suspended on stand, but when on the ground i can tune it so it wont roll. also i have the steel clutchbell... could it be the spring already? i thought the steel clutchbell came with an improved spring that didnt need replaced after the first run. I mean out of the box it did the same thing. how could it have a broken spring and empty shocks out of the box?

on the ground, either no movement or very little, just make sure its enough not to stall. if it was the spring, it would stall as soon as it was on the ground and not moving or when you hit the brake.

ok then its good then... sweet! thanks
on yet another note... i was driving it today and the left rear wheel stripped where the plastic hex and the wheel nut met and the axle would just spin but not the wheel... story short i need a new wheel or set of wheels. can anyone recomend a set that are durable yet lightweight? looking for one that has metal hex so it wont strip this time. Dont know if these exist. Thanks

here are aluminum hex's : http://www.redcatracing.com/itemdeta...?partno=02134B
as far as rims, most 2.2 truck rims will work, check out some of the hpi rims, i use the traxxas rustler rear rims, you just need to take away a little plastic.

thanks again ehroof... i like the alum hexs, but what i meant was where the hex meets the wheel.. it fits into the plastic hex of the wheel itself.. are there any wheels that are metal on the inside where the hex is? i just dont want to burn through em so easily next time..
and for the 2.2 truck rims, what kind of tires do u use?

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
another weird thing i noticed, my box the buggy came in says tornado XP, but i got the .18 motor, none of my part colors match up to any car, their all opposite, i got the 2 speed, so what car do i really have, or do i just got the bb, or can u chose the colors of chasis, springs, etc.. you want when you order, i took this in on a trade, im thinking he got the xp, than upgraded everything else, but still my chasis and other parts arnt the same color as the xp models.. lol. i cant even determine what model i got, but im happy saying the bb i guess.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
The biggest difference is at the wheel hubs. The tornado bb has pivot ball suspension the other has link pin suspension. If your still unsure go to redcatracing.com and take a look. I think there's a review about them in the home page too. I thought I saw one anyway.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
the xp is a 2 speed with the .18, its the earlier version of the bb, i have the xp, it has a purple frame. the suspension is the biggest differene also the battery box, if the battery box is rectangular its a bb, if its meat cleaver shaped, its the xp

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
the batt box seems rectangular to me, but i dont know what you mean by meat cleaver shaped.. the chasis was purple until i de-anodized it, heres some pics tho, before

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
my lhs didnt even have any of them, the comp said they had 1, they looked for 20 mins couldnt find any, so i went to autozone and bought a gasket roll.. and cut my own, now i got as many as i want was 5.99 for the roll, can prolly get 1000 out of the roll, lol

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
alright, i just wasnt sure, cuz the newer models it looks like parts from different model.. so this is an older model xp, which came with the larger motor? and hows your gasket holding up for you, pretty well, not that it matters, since ill have as many as i need now, lol

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
and another thing, i was looking at the black hpi shock, their longer than the tornado ones, but they looked to be the size round, and cut down i think they would work just fine, might have to take another look, anyone know which ones im talking about?
they were like these, but black, i dont know the sizes of the stock tornado ones tho.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
the gasket material i got is double the thickness of the original one, i think one of this is enough, ill see once i get it going.. and the shocks are like the ones in the pic, the lenght besides blue their black

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Just took my tornado out of the box and started it up. When it fired, it was at full throttle with all wheels spinning. What do I need to do?
Thanks
