RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I found that 2 speed trans is infact NOT working... took it apart tonight.,... the 2 speed clutch is not engaging... I inspected the little bar that comes out to engage second gear and it was stuck... once i was able to free it up it decides to come out all the time now... I ordered a new 2 speed clutch and I will call them tomorrow to discuss warranty for it... I felt it better to just order a 5.00 part and deal with warranty replacement later on.... Also question, have you guys encountered any issues with the throttle servo making a popping noise? Mine is doing this when braking.... I beleive it to be the servo arm but just curious.... I will discuss it with them tomorrow as well..... so far the car has been fun.... and quite a learning experience so far... but I'm loving the challenge.... You guys have a good night.... I will let you know my progress

The popping noise Iwould suspect to be gears inside the servo skipping. The stock servos are not that great. Ihave replaced mine with decent quality inexpensive servos. Iuse Hitec HS322HD with good result.

Does anybody know the correct order for the adjustment screw on the 2 speed clutch? Is it Set screw then ball bearing then spring? or set screw spring then ball ?

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
It's been a while since I have messed with my Tornado. I also have a Tsunami I bought off a buddy with the same problem.
Transmissions keep stripping. Not sure why, I have been making them tight and feeding paper through to make sure it was not too tight, but I still just stripped a transmission again. Has there been any upgrades to a steel transmission? I would love to go steel single speed and let her rip.
Maybe because I was doing donuts in the grass when the transmission tore up? I wasn't going full throttle, but it shaved it.

debris is hard on spur gears and so is abrupt acceleration. metal gears will just transfer the stress onto something more expensive. metal spur gears are not the way to go. your clutch bell could we warped that has been known on the tornado. dont land with the throttle wide open either. there isnt a slipper clutch in the transmission so be careful for that.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey guys! I'm new to the nitro car world. My boss gave me his tornado s30 as a thank you for coming into work on a Sunday. He gave me a bunch of extra parts and goodies. So after running it a few times, my first question is...does my car have reverse? My radio has settings for it, but I have no clue on how to adjust the settings to make it reverse. I'm assuming it has the original servo, so I'm not sure if the servo has reverse? Any help/ suggestions would be great. Thanks guys

Ok cool thank you for the help. I've been having a blast with this thing. Can't wait to start tinkering with it and gain as much speed as possible!

Does the Tornado S30 come with a build in Failsafe? I know they have upgraded the control to a 2.4Ghz, but wanted to make sure it has failsafe build in? Thanks for any help.

You can buy one here though. They are cheap and keep your car in one piece.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I just realized that my clutch bell moves back and forth a bit, about 2mm maybe 3mm max (I think). I'm not sure if this is new or not and I ran the car this way yesterday and everything was fine. I have already ran about 3/4 of gallon through the engine and everything is still the original pieces. I guess I was just wondering if that was normal or if the screw that holds the clutch is slowly coming off.

Great! I was really hoping it was normal and I didn't have to take it apart. Thanks for the reply. I was also considering switching to a two speed transmission. Part number 02045 is the clutch that goes inside the transmission itself? If so, I'm guessing that the clutch comes with the new transmission when you buy it, no? Thanks!

it looks like the clutch is sliding off the shoes. No this is not normal. It's hard to believe you haven't shredded a spur gear yet. You'll have to remove the engine and tighten the clutch bell screw in the crankshaft. Use blue locktight on it.

I would advise against the two speed swap. Most of us have migrated away from the two speed. Unless you change the gearing it never lets the engine get up to full rpm's in second. Mine actually runs faster in first gear. I tightened the shifting clutch so it won't shift and my Tornado has much more power. Second gear just bogs down. In the beginning of this thread you can read about using HPI clutch bell pinion gears but I can't find 13 tooth pinions available anymore. The lowest I've found are 15 tooth. And I may have misunderstood your reply but it reads like - Great...I don't have to take it apart! You do have to take it apart. Remove the engine from the chassis and tighten the clutch bell screw on the end of the crankshaft.

Correct me if I am wrong. You will need the following for the conversion.

I only run the car on the road so I thought that maybe the 2 speed would give me some extra speed. I figured that if it doesn't work now, then maybe in the future if I end up upgrading the engine.
BTW, which engine do you run on yours?
ShredderGuy, how sure are you about me needing the 2 speed clutch (02045)? I thought that part might come already with the new transmission (one of the reasons being that the upgrade kit to a 2 speed transmission doesn't list that part) hereand because I didn't see it mentioned in other posts much earlier in this thread.
