RE: Redcat Racing Tsunami Thread
forlorm22 i like the sh engines there fairly good for the price. the cvrx is a bit more powerful and still a great price. You should do a google search for the sh 18 pro I heard there really good with lots of power. another thing is the lrp 18 I bilieve has more power than the os cvrx for a good price.

Ok I think I might have figured it out. We'll see lol anyways if it works here are a few photos of my nami. I haven't done a ton to it yet. Still plan on putting in a better engine and doing a few more mods. I have a couple aluminum parts and a few aftermarket things on it but it looks ok so far.

I know I need a rotary carb but what sort of shaft is it that will drop right in? I never put in an after market engine in anything so not sure if they come in different diameters and lengths or is the diameter is standard and length is the only thing that changes? Do I just need a standard length shaft or whatever its called?

The small block engines are all pretty much the same with the sg shafts. The lrp or o.s. would be a drop in. You dont actually need a rotary carb though. If you got an engine with a slide carb you would just have to adjust how the linkage attaches to the servo which isnt very hard.

RE: Redcat Racing Tsunami Thread
Does anyone have any idea how much "horsepower" the vx puts out? I'm just wondering how much of an increase in power I will have going to the OS or LRP. I'm sort of leaning towards the lrp because it says it has more power lol. If I'm gonna spend the money on it I figure I might as well get the best one I can find (with in reason of course I still would like to sleep inside). I'm asking about the power increase for two reasons #1. fun factor my brother in-law has a tsunami and I want to rip him up with mine lol and another in-law has a smartech buggy thats pretty fast and I want to rip him too lol, and I just want it to rip things up sorta like my mgt. #2. Will I need to beef up anything else? Will my gears and tranny and diffs and all that hold up to the increased power. I have broke my rear drive shaft from tranny to rear diff and wore out those cups with my stock engine so I imagine I will need to do something about those. I read hpi makes a heavier duty dogbone not sure about the drive cups though. May have to replace the clutch and spring? Any ideas? I want to try to get all the info before I start ordering parts so hopefully I can order just once or twice lol.

forlorm22 if your going to get the os cvr you need the one with the standard crankshaft http://osengines.com/engines/osmg2104.html that is the exact engine you need. I recomend changing to the single speed direct drive transmission instead of the twospeed(thats what i have and the thing still flys) Fot the clutch I recoment the hpi heavy duty 14 tooth bell(13tooth you need to run crappy bearings not worth it) and for the clutch shoes I got the hpi nitro 3 shoes http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCFR3&P=7
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM720&P=7 you will need this pilot nut if your going to run the nitro 3 shoes with the single speed or this one if your going to run the 13/18 bell for the 2speed http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM721&P=7
now for your drive shaft and diff cups issue on the rear the hpi mt2 18ss heavy duty dog bone and drive cups fit right in or you can get the mt218ss diff cup and a GPM cvd from ebay for the mt2(I have one and its working good still) Im not sure if the front one will work
When I pit the cvrx 18 and the single speed transmission in my tsunami I had to trim a little bit of plastic by the throttle servo just to make a little room to get the right gear mesh no big deal. good luck man if there is anything that i missed let me know.

RE: Redcat Racing Tsunami Thread
Great info eminentguitar . Im still running the stock engine in my tsunami with the two speed. I have no problems jumping with it, just let off the gas before you land. I love when the truck shifts into second and it takes off. As for the gearing, Im using a 15T CB on my lrp in my MT2 with a 52T spur and like I said the truck flies. I havent been able to run them against each other yet though (still trying to teach the wife to drive). Hopefully this weekend Ill be able to test them and see which is actually faster.
I've heard nothing but good things about the OS engine. I got a great deal on ebay on my lrp so I couldnt pass it up. It was only $69, and well worth it.

yeah man for that price you cant go wrong even if you only get a summer out of it. I have about 4 gallons of fuel through my cvrx and its still running strong. I think that the lrp is made by sh engines(or by the same company that makes sh engines lol) Do you have the hpi 13/18 clutch bell on yours?

And the specs on the new lrp are better than the specs on the os as far as horse power and rpms etc. Not by much but better none the less. I'm doubt it would be noticed but who knows.

Can one of you post a few pics of your Tsunami with the lid off and maybe a few different directions. I have an amex cheetah and the resemblance is very close. If it is that close then I'll convert it to a Tsunami . As well did the Tsunami come out with the sh engine cause thats what mine has.

About 8 months without any problems too, except slamming sideways into a frozen snow bank and breaking the body.
Edit: heres a pic of the truck I painted.

It's awesome very very tough, and very loud lol. The hurricane is more fun and faster but I think I have it tuned better. I'd buy another monsoon with out thinking twice, very good trucks, same goes for the hurricane I just need a mt now.

Sell some stuff on ebay lol, make it like a garage sale and save up. I sold a pile of computer parts and thats what bought my monsoon. The hurricane went on my m/c the wife will never know hahahahahah.
