Feels Like Truck Is Stuck In Second Gear?
I just took my tsunami out and it relly feeels slugish.. I will take some video but it really feels and sounds like its stuck in second gear.. it has no low end and when I peg it , it accelerated slowly with very little sound of the engine rpm going up, it never really screams.. and it does not shift.. one I am going fast the engine starts to sound like ites reving up.. I have the set screw for the shift adjust turned out.. wait, now that I think about it, dont I want the set screw all the way IN to keep it in first gear?.. maybe I just pulled a stupid.. hehe..

does your tsunami pull at all in second? Mine is all stock, runs fantastic and the rpms really scream. ive got my second gear set to shift really late, cause when it does shift, the motor just kind of levels out, it wont continue to pull much at all. its set now so that it only really shifts when its on a long straight pull. sometimes if it hit a bump and all 4 wheels come up for a sec it will shift and then bog when it lands. just curious if its just cause they arent powerfull enough to pull or if i have something set up wrong.

the second gear is too tall geared, i put a 13/18 clutch bell in mine and it made it alot better, the stock is 16/21 i think.

ah i thought so. mine really flies even when i lock the screw all the way down so it really never shifts. thats the way i run it most of the time. do you happen to know a part number for that clutch bell? and would i have to change my trans gears too?
man im glad i found this site, thanks thanks thanks!

you will need these to replace the bearings:

or 3 5x8x2.5 bearings, your better off with the bearings, the stock ones wont fit this clutch bell but believe me, its well worth it, you will have tons of power in second gear instead of it being a pig.

Cool, thanks. I noticed they are all on back order. I will have to check back later. sounds like a worth-while upgrade to me though.

Oh yea and does a steel clutch bell make the engine rev slower? I figure it wont matter since the gearing is changed so much but was just curious

it shouldnt, it may be a little heavier but no matter what, its worth it since it wont rip the gears out and give you much better performance all around.

RE: Feels Like Truck Is Stuck In Second Gear?
how about lowering first gear a little, I like to have tons of torque, I want it to get up and GO.. im not to concerned with top speed as much as low end tq, but with a 2 speed I can have both.. so how low should I make 1st.. and would that still be a good second If i lowerd first or should I lower that also?..
I dont really think its my tune but this truck never impressed me on acceleration compared to my 1/8th scale XTM Mammoth with an SH28 (I know its alot bigger engine, but it was huge and heavy).. I dont really have room in the temp to lean out and it does not hesitate at all when I romp on it so I dont think its to rich, and it does blow a decent ammout of smoke when I peg it .. I just think that I need to lower gears and/or put a bigger engine in there.. this is a big block right?.. can I fit a .21 or bigger in there?..
thanks

the 13/18 tooth is low enough bro, the stock is like 16/21 or 17/22, the second gear is a tooth or two larger than the stock first gear.

So the car would have about the same top speed as if you just locked the tranny down so it wouldnt shift? Or does that extra tooth or two give it a little more top than before.

little more than before, and the engine sounds better, the stock gearing is too high for the tsunami, its good for the buggy and the car but not the tsunami, i may actually change it to a single speed setup, less complicated and for the track or off road its really the best ot have a single speed.

RE: Feels Like Truck Is Stuck In Second Gear?
just a side note, the two other cars we got (all ordered together and delivered in the same box) have both broken the clutch spring. mine has not. Out of curiosity, i got a magnet and amazingly enough mine already has a steel clutch bell on it :-) lucky me. I still definitely want to lower the gearing. we ordered a 4th car for my cousin and his came with a steel clutch bell separate and a paper telling us to swap it out before we run it...

RE: Feels Like Truck Is Stuck In Second Gear?
Well.... I am having trouble getting the parts to work. When I put it all together the clutch bell is locked to the engine. It doesn't spin freely at all. I know I'm just not putting it together right or something so what's the correct way to put it together with the new parts?
Thanks
