Default Volcano cheap a%% spur gear fix

Well I know alot of people have been cmplaining about the cheap spur gears on redcats. Well I have now stripped my 3rd. I have been pretty unsatisfied about my volcano have owned it for 3 months and really have not yet been able to take it out and drive it something always breaking and after doing some upgrades I have not wanted to trash it (just yet that is) But I have found some intresting things out. As far as aluminum upgrades you can go with HPI mt2 header, muffler,C-hubs and front turn knuckles(you need mt2 bearings). It seems that redcat is a HPI knock off. I was at my local hobby store and the guy there was trying to sell me the mt2 ss18 kit after looking at it closely I noticed that it has the same chassis as the volcano. So my next thing I am going to do which I believe should work same motor same chassis ect I am going to get the mt2 tranny and try installing it inplace of the junk that Redcat puts out. I will keep you posted on if it works. Also if anyone out there has noticed what I noticed please let me know.

It's nothing even close to like the MT. We sell both side by side, I wouldn't compare either one of them. If that's the case then the MT is a cheap knock off of the old Ofna Pirate since they both have the same length axles and the chassis.

I am using an hpi 44T spur gear in my Volcano SV, and it seems to be working great. You have to be using the single gear tranny from Clermont. All you need to do is shorten the shaft on the clip side of the gear a little so you can get the clips back on. They make an aluminum one that I might look at to see if I can get it to work.

I would say the mt2 does look a little long but the setup is very close.

Just beware that if your planning on climbing big hills it doesn't deliver the torque you get from the stock tranny, but is hella preformer on flat land and gives an over all preformance boost on the flat ground and small bumps.

I climb some pretty serious dirt hills with mine and it has no problems doing it! I have an aftermarket pipe, header, and airfilter on mine and it climbs the hills almost too fast, and I am talking 15ft hills full of good size rocks and almost too steep to take a real truck up.

I think it has more torque than stock to be honest but I guess its an opinion. Overall it is a good upgrade though.

I'm just saying what customers have told me. I've never personally run it on a hill, I live in Texas there are no hills here, it's flatter than piss on a platter.
