New engine for Tsunami.
I went and bought a good name brand motor for my sons Tsunami. I got a great deal on it. Its a Peak Racing Diablo .15. It boasts 43,000 rpm's and 1.5 hp. This motor is sweet. I installed it and started break in process. Once fueled and primed it took about 3 strong pulls it came to life with a nice smooth purrr. The motor normally goes for about $230. I practly stole it. Here are some pics and I will keep you all updated. I have read nothing but good about these motors and by the price of the other Diablo motors I would say they are top of the line motors. Let just say the diablo .12 CRF goes for about $500.00.

RE: New engine for Tsunami.
Darn I knew I forgot something. I forgot to get the big block. Its only a .15 so I dont think that will happen. I have 3 tanks through so far and Im starting to lean it out. another thing that I noticed when I pulled the head off and back plate there was no metal anywhere to be found. Inside was spotless and all the pores were deburred and smooth. No rough edges any where. I would have got the .18 but he did not have any and he said the .15 put out just as much power with just a tad less rpm's. The .12 puts out a little less than 1.5hp with almost 46,000 rpm's. Now thats screaming but its used for racing.

This motor says its an ABN sleeve and piston but I see a ring in a recessed groove near the top. Why would the ring be there if its an abn construction.

nice engine.. but in the second pic.. I noticed you have wheels for a 2wd on the front.. using those on the front prety much makes it 2wd.. there is no grip in front now.. I know there no center diff, but still.. how does it handle with that on there?

It actually handles just fine. The tires are the same size and you still get grip from the front. The tires and wheels were temporary because I had problems with the stock ones. I have the factory ones back on till they wear out.

Ok I got some info on the ring that is in my engine.. The motor is an abn engine with nicasil and brass piston. The ring that I see is the nicasil piston plating with the brass looking recess in the piston. It makes it look like it has a ring.

Hello
I'm new to rc's and read above that the engine was changed. Are most parts interchangeable in R/C's. Example. can you use shafts made by HPI in a Redcat truck or buggy? Do all engines bolt right on original engine mounts?
Thanks and sorry for the noob questions
Thanks
Marc

No not all parts are interchangeable. Like you engine foe example. It has a standard threaded shaft with side exhaust and rotary carb. You would have to get a motor with the same things. There are SG shafts, short threaded shafts, slide carbs and rear exhaust engines. Some parts from HPI will work in redcat trucks but not all. Sometimes you can even go to the hobby shop with a part and match something up that will work. Thats what the forums are good for because people experiment with things and you can find out what works and what dont.
As for engine mounts you have small block mounts which are engine feom .12 to .18 in size and you have big block engine mounts which is .21 and bigger. Small block mounts will work with any motor but you need the right motor combination as far as crank, carb and exhaust goes.
