Default bearings in an hpi bell

okay, i got the hpi clutch bell and the two pinion gears for my tornado. when i put the 2 bearings in the new bell i can't get it all tightened down. the bell will slide back and forth a little. did i miss something here? i put the bearings in the new bell just like they came out of the old bell, one in the top, one in the bottom.

i put the washers in the way they came out of the old one. all i had was a washer and a lock washer on the end where the screw is. that same set up works fine if i put the old bell back on.

that should be a direct swap, make sure there isnt a washer stuck in the old bell.

you may need to add a washer or put washers in differnt places, maybe take the big one from the top and put on the bottom to bring the bell out a little more, how much play are you talking about, very little? there's no wobble in it right, just a little front to back play.

no wobble at all, just front to back, lemme try moving the washer...

wait a minute, the only washer i have can only go one place, it isn't big enough to fit over the black shaft that goes thru the bearings. and here i thought i'd have this buggy out tonight [&o]
i guess i need to get some washers that'll fit over the shaft.

that washer left over is prolly the one that goes in the end, where your screw goes. Its big enough for the screw to fit thru. I put the same one in my buggy, and thats the same washer I left out, when I realized I had play. Even when I added that washer I had some minor back and forth play in it, but still ran very well, and I've had no problems with it.

a little play is ok, just not excessive. here's a picture of how it should go:

okay that's a no for the Home Depot, i got some that are small enough but the hole in the middle is too small to fit over the shaft. i'm losing my patience, i drove an hour to another Hobbytown to get my new bearings and I still can't run because nothing is fitting right!!!![:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

SUCCESSS!!! I got my bag of HPI 5x10x.5 spacers (washers) today. I added a total of three to the clutch bell and placed them in various places between the bearings. Now i have the bell sitting PERFECT! I took it out to try it and WOW! I can really tell a difference! I mean it's probably a combo of the header, pipe, motor saver filter, clutch spring, bell and pinion gears, but man this thing moves now! I have RCU to thank for me learning all this stuff. Now if they could just get some good stuff out for the avalanche...
