I used a thick paper clip on both of my Tornado's. Just put it through the bottom body mount hole next to the head and have it go across to one of the cooling fins.

Remove the starter screws, turn the starter 90 degrees to position the pull handle away from the throttle (toward the RH side of the car) and put the screws back in. You will have to trim the body opening around the engine a bit larger for the handle. I did this after seeing the interference problem and works great.

when you do that, doesnt it leave the pointed out area of the pull start exposed to the air? if so and i may be wrong since i never tries it, dirt could get in and wreak some havoc on the one way, pullstart internal parts and the shaft. What you did sounds great, just make sure nothing is exposed to dirt.

I had dirt get into it the original way it came from Redcat and I had to take it off to clean everything up. That's when I thought about turning it. Since it's been rotated, I have not had any problems with dirt getting in.

Pull cord handle tends to get caught in the throttle linkage and can cause the Rc throttle stick!

Update - lots of dirt track running since I did this mod and no problems at all. Also, included a picture of it.

So on the body mount, put the paper clip through the bottom hole - the starighten out the rest of the paper clip and? Sorry, but I was just wanting to know where it leads from the body mount. I put the paper clip throught the body mount hole, but it seems to me with the motor hear, the paper clip with it's coating would melt, as well as wrapping it around ot wedging it would cause some damage or hazard.

Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Hey, that's nice. Do you have some details on that sullivan tigerdrive, like the model, what it fits, where you got it etc?
Thanks

http://www.sullivanproducts.com/tigerdrivecontent.htm

you can find em on ebay too. Need the starter wand and a cordless drill. Works great. fast gear ratio to really spin the motor fast..

The one for my engine and the factory shockwave motor is part number S680. The most common one..
