RE: Drift tires for the lighnting
Are they hard to make? I was wondering who made them to see if I could get some from the Hobbytown here (would save on shipping, no offense)

You make them out of PVC pipe, search youtube for "rc drift tires" and it should have some how to videos. Like Dennis said though, its not worth the time when you can get 3 sets for $15.

RE: Drift tires for the lighnting
Well I went against my own advice and decided to make some drift tires. Home Depot had 2' pre cut sections of 2" black PVC for $1.79, enough to make a good 5 sets. It took me about 45min to make a set of 4. I just got done putting a tank through it to test them out and let me tell you..... it has to be the most fun I have had with my Lightning. It allows for some very controllable drifts. I am letting it cool down as I type this, I will do my best to get a video up in a few.

No I did not round the edges off. I figured it would most likely round them off just by driving. I just put 4 more tanks through it and boy is it fun. I'll have a video up shortly.[sm=teeth_smile.gif]

I did sand the edges a little so they didnt have a sharp edge but nothing like how yours are rounded. They actually did start to round off a bit more after 5 tanks. They seem to handle fine though as is.
Here is the video I promised. Sorry it took so long, it was my first attempt putting a video together.

good job on the vid.. alot of fun isn't it. Didn't see your body up close but make sure all the windows are cut out when drifting. You dont get much air flow going that slow.

Yes it sure is a lot of fun. Good call on on cutting the windows. I actually have half the front window cut out and a large hole over the engine. I'll have to bust out the temp gun on the next tank and see where its at.

if you use ABS pipe (its like PVC but black) you can get alittle more control yet beable to slide. Thats what I use on my 1/10 electric I have for drifting.

Ya thats what I picked up today was the ABS pipe. I am blown away on how quick these wear down for being solid plastic. I believe I have 8 hard tanks on this set and they are already worn down quite a bit.

I used these Redcat rims. http://www.redcatracing.com/itemdeta...?partno=02113w They are just a bit larger then normal touring car rims so I had to sand them down just a little to get the pipe to fit. I used super glue to glue the tire on.
Hey Eddie, did you get your drift tires yet?

RE: Drift tires for the lighnting
I have the stock rims and a extra set from redcat. I found out they are much larger than the abs piping, so i though i could get some feedback on other rims or wheels people are using. I guess i will just have to buy some other 26mm wheels and see which ones will fit. In the mean time i will just grind down the redcat wheels to fit.
Must not be too many people drifting yet!

I just bought a couple full sets 6 spoke rims from e-bay for under 10.00. I guess i will see how they work out. For now i will just grind down the extra set of redcat rims i have.
