SH.18 officially toasted
Well, just like the title states, my SH.18 has finally given up. I was running down the straightaway with my RS4 under full throttle until i heard a slight rise in engine noise and it shut off The cause? A weak sleeve from which caused a piece of it to break off and become lodged in the motor. The piston now has a large long gouge on the side (bad compression) and one of the transfer ports is larger than usual. I ported the motor prior to it blowing up, maybe I got too happy with the dremel. All it needs now is a new piston and sleeve, but they're hard to come by and the engine replacement program is too much of a hassle since im in Canada and all.

I am very suprised, i run the sh.18 in alot of my rc's and i think its a great engine, very durable and easy to tune and good power. I think you may have weakened the sleeve when you ported it, i have ported a few of my sh and other engine and you need to be real careful that you dont remove too much or you will weaken the sleeve.

Well, yes they are really reliable and god did it have lots of power, but you're right, the porting did weaken the sleeve. But no worries, I found a replacement engine similar to the SH, a Megatech M16 which i picked up for cheap.
