Default Another brushless Avalanche thread

Ok, this is not really an Avalanche..

The car is a HSP Rattlesnake which is the same car as the Avalanche.

I am going to post info and pictures during the conversion.

Parts that I have gathered so far are:
Motor: MegaMotors ACn 22/30/3 1000w 1270rev/V
ESC: Welgard 70A (no BEC)
Battery: 2x Mystery 11.1V 3cell 2800mAh
Gear: 10t Mod 1.0

So far i have mounted an ESC in the radiobox and have got a CAD blueprint of the new engine mount that I will have to build.

I have moved the servotray to the left side of the chassie and cut off the part off the servotray that goes to the throttle/brake servo.

I will post some pictures later today.

Ok, so here comes a couple of pictures.

These are before I rebuilt the servotray and it is still on the right side on these photos.

The ESC:

The Motor:

The Gear:

The Batteries:

I will use 2 batteries at the same time so I will get 22.2V out of them.
This will give me about 28000rpm.

I believe the standard VX.21 engine does 30000rpm so its pretty close.

Good luck with it - that's a plane ESC right? in which case the brake might be a bit poor, if it exists at all - so you might need to retain the original disc brake.

What are you going to use for a motor mount.

Yes, the ESC is from a plane but the brake is really good in it..
It is programmable so it has got three brakemodes - Hard, Medium and Soft or something like that..

For the mount I am going to cut out a bit of 8mm thick alloy and mill out the holes with a Dremel and a "mill-mount"

True but you know how much energy a truck needs to burn off to slow from speed? That energy has to go somewhere - Using an ESC brake means it dissipates as heat in the ESC and in the motor (mostly the motor). In my opinion it's best to dissipate that into a mechanical disc brake in order to keep your motor temps down.

The only problem I see with having a mecanical break is that i dont have enough channels in my radio.

I can probably use a Y-cable to connect a servo to the brake.

I will have to take a look at that..

Any ideas?

A y-cable would work, but it depends on whether the plane ESC can treat center trigger as "idle" (i.e. no throttle) since a plane ESC goes from 0% to +100%, unlike a car wich goes -100% to 0 to +100%. Try the ESC only, and you can always add the mech brake later. The mech brake might also give a better feel - the plane brake might be on/off and no progressive brake.

Update: 2008-11-24

So here comes a couple of pictures of the new engine mount.
It's made in 8mm thick alloy.

I have also rearranged the radio equipment (servo and receiver)

And now, the pics:

That's all for now...

The piniong will reach, the mount is built so that the motor can slide towards the differential.

I will probably upload some more pictures later today.

Will have to get another ESC though because i toasted the old one today when running it with that engine and 6s lipos.
Must have been to many Amps..

The HiMoto Rancho is also pretty much the same as the Avalanche and the Rattlesnake?

I took a look at your pictures and it looks like its the same chassis and such..

What piniong did you use for your truck?
Mine was a Mod 1.0 so that's what I bought.

How will you solve the batterymount?
Will you use a "batterybox" or something else?

A little update again.

I found out why I toasted the old ESC.

The problem seemed to be the amount of "poles" in the motor.
The standard setting in the ESC was "2pole inrunner" the motor I am running is a "6pole inrunner".
Therefore I toasted the transistors in the ESC.. [:@]

I will order a new ESC soon because the one I am using right now is a little bit to weak.
I am just using it to test the rest of the electrical system, to make sure the motor lines up with the diff and such.

The car runs but I haven't tested full throttle yet.

Will post some pictures and I will keep coming with new updates.

Hi,

I am Sebastien from Nitro Speed R/C. I really really like his brushless motor mount. Is there someone near me or not that will be able to built some for me?

If its possible:

1) Please give me the cost for each brushless mount.
2) Please give me the cost for shipping to Canada , Quebec, G1E1G4.

Best regards

Sebastien

Sorry for not updating in a while.

After some minor problems I have now got the car running.

The setup is a bit changed and it will probably be even faster now.

Setup:
Scorpion HK-3026 1600kv 1470W 6poles 10T
Mystery 100A plane ESC, No BEC, Electrical brake
Hitec Feather 35Mhz Receiver
JR XP652 35Mhz Transmitter
Mystery LiPo 3S 2800mAh 25c-30c

Will post some new photos and hopefully a video soon to.

To little space to run on, only 3cell LiPo on and rather frozen ground.
Kinda hard to run it on..
