Default Off road car/truck advice?

Hi, this is my first post here.

I´m looking for a reliable off road rc car for my boy, he´s 5 years old and this will be his first real RC car. So far I´ve seen the redcat shockwave nitro buggy, the volcano epx, the duratrax evader rtr and exb.Of course I´m open to suggestions!

All Iwant is a reliable vehicle that don´t break too easy and can run fine in the grass or dirt, it doesn´t have to be fast nor handle good, just be relatively cheap,, hard to break and ready to run. Nitro power is a plus since he really likes cars and engine sounds, but not mandatory in any way (before you ask, Ihave a couple of years of experience racing, tuning and modifying nitro cars).

Can you guys please give me some advice? try to be as non-biased as possible : )

Thanks for reading!

The volcano epx is a great stater truck. Its controlable speed wise and is very tough. It would be great for a youngster just starting out.

Nitro would be too much for a 5 year old. Stick with electric, non lipo, easy to control and use.

5 yrs old is a lil young for a nitro....even a tornado would get away from a 5 yr old fast...I would say electric...and also take him to a large open space with little to no objects to hit that can break it...

I would go with a monster truck ( thats saying something cause I'm a buggy guy)...once he starts to learn you can buy some lil cheap orange cones off ebay and put them up for him to run around...I think I paid like $15 for 24 or 30 of em...

NPK - I have a Volcano EPX Pro in stock for $179.99 It the brushless version. Have you considered a rock crawler? Redcat make the Rockslide RS10 with twin motors, 4WD and 4 Wheel steering.

NPK- have you looked at the ground pounder? I think that would be any kids dream. its a lil more expensive than the volcano epx but it is in stock. I'm a dealer and I'll consider giving you a special holiday emergency deal. pm me if your interested.
