Default earthquake 8E Help!!

I have the earthquake 8e. I was driving it this weekend on a straight away and it come to a complete stop. From that point it is making some terrble noises and not pulling the front or rear tires. it sounds like something is stripped when I give it gas. I have taken the entire truck apart and checked the differentials and they all look fine. Has anyone else had any problems

I don't wanna insult you. but have you checked the spur gear and pinion gear? have you disassembled all 3 diff's to ensure the internal gears are not stripped? I hope this helps you get pointed in the right direction.

Yeah i have taken all the differentials apart (3 of them). Everything looks to be good. It almost seems like it is coming from the motor. what could have happened to the motor to make it do this? It still spins freeley, but when it is hooked to the center differential it starts going crazy. Can I take the motor apart and check something in it????

thanks for you help.

Without seeing the truck, I'd guess you've either stripped the spur gear or had the pinion move so the setscrew is hitting the spur gear. The motor is sealed, so it wouldn't be that.

Can you post a photo of the pinion/spur gear as it sits in your truck right now?

the truth about the earthquake 8E .... This will be a review of quality. and recommendation.
A review by a technician and aviation helicopter and airplane and car specialist

before you read everything it is fun to drive, as you will see below it just won't last

1) first in the 8E line of cars, three of them the earthquake 8E was an afterthought. It's a modified backdraft ,it was never meant to be a truck. It was never designed as a truck.so it doesn't work well in this design. The Tmaxx ,Savage flux .. and a few others.. these had a background and were actual trucks. The quality of these other products is much higher. if you're expecting mileage from your earthquake 8E.. you know down the road miles.. no.. it never happened you will be replacing worn-out stripped bent and broken parts. And it will be very sloppy continually. It was just never meant to be a truck. So it's very cool but the worst of the three. The others will be a little bit better.

I own one soooo ... oh well

I will make the best of mine no choice.. and here's my advice part.. don't upgrade it.. don't try to keep improving it.. just run it until it won't run anymore with minor maintenance you know usual light maintenance.. and only replaced the parts only when absolutely gone. To modify this thing , you'd be better off with something else.. oh but there's the problem. Have you seen the price of a fully loaded decent car.. watch how fast a thousand dollars will go. And even so all cars are in a constant state of crashing just to use them so expect a money pit.. take this with a grain of salt and enjoy the price of driving. If you enjoy it a lot then spend $1000. If you're just a casual driver keep your earthquake and take my advice. Don't upgrade anything.. oh no funny crashes ..Remember the pros can always make it look strong... they know how to fly the car and make good landings.. and believe it they also know how to crash it without damage.. especially for videos. Their expert drivers were not.

Just drive it replace whatever wares to dust.. and don't worry it will happen sooner than you think.. you might even want to set a goal for how much money and then just stop. Try for $500 maybe.. and don't go over, then.. try to sell the car and get $100 back if you're lucky. Then you've had your car fun,, .. and,,,if you want move up to the big money pits for tons of money,at least you'll have better product.. or put car days behind you and you had your experience.

Personally I think I'm going to put in $100 for parts run my earthquake till its dead.. and say goodbye.this will already be lots of maintenance with short running time.but it is fun watching the power it has .I have airplanes flying after 18 years. .. lucky to get a car to run 18 months. The earthquake will never make this. I predict at four runs per day... it will be heavily worn especially in the front where the dog bone turns the differential, bad in about 10 days.there will be lots of slop and missing metal. just keep replacing parts and keep doing maintenance. $75 for the parts are even hundred dollars for the parts should keep you going for a few months hopefully.this is four runs per day.

and oh yeah the tires keep rubbing on the body nothing you can do. Also the tires flare up and become really annoying. You're going to hear a lot of body grinding noise from the tires hitting it,so just get used to it or get rid of the body.

conclusion for me. I'm going to quit after years because I don't think they're worth over $1000 just to bash them into the ground... and you will easily go way over this trying to succeed. Just a personal preference. I think you should be able to get a good product for $500 but it doesn't seem so easy getting one brand-new.. they seem to be over this amount I'm including batteries.. at least one set. so this car is a great deal.. just not going to get any longevity.. so they will make their money on parts until you give up.

It's like buying a printer for your computer.. they're dirt cheap to buy.. but then you pay for cheap Ink through your wallet.. they know what they're doing.

thanks everyone and my opinions are only my own after pay close attention to the where on metal to metal parts and to the quality of the metal, screws .plastic .. and how they interact . and overall design.

hey friend.

If all your gears look fine I hope you didn't drive through water.. or get it wet. This can cause the speed control to send information to the motor erratically causing it to vibrate making just noise.. or check the pinion gear grub screw.

Check all the gears in the differential I'm sure your perfect here..but make sure they're not too far apart because under the power of this car they may feel good but might skip.. you should see signs of skipping but sometimes it is a little tricky for a beginner.. because it won't be broken or anything. Make sure that the cases are tight and gears are tight.. if you do find this problem make some shims out of something. Or buy something to use.

It also could be your dog bone cups somewhere else slipping.

Just trying to help... can't really think of anything else.

Ihave an Earthquake 8e and love it. Could be the motor........??? Have you called Redcat.......????????? I just got some go fast Upgrades for mine from Kurt@URCHobby
website http://urchobby.com/ Kurt has one of these also and can give you a lot of tips on it........ Orderd alot of stuff from him.......... some to fix stuff I broke from my own fault hitting a tree head on at 45mph for one......... he has hooked me up since with Spur and Pinion from Backdraft 8e (diff size) plus programmer for ESC. Call Kurt he will get You straight 516-499-7419. My freinds have the E Revo and Savage Flux these are just as crazy to drive as the Earthquake and they are always breaking and fixing them more then I am.......... Just couldn't bring myself to spend $600 on an RC car... Don't get me wrong those trucks are Bad ass just don't seem to be that much better then the Earthquake 8e.. Good luck call Kurt!!!

yes for the money its sooooo fun.. it will show you what it's like to drive an expensive $700 plus car. Just like the savage flux. And my friend has a flux and it breaks. it's luck and how you drive. but at least this car is in top-of-the-line class of super beast.

And it does handle better than a savage...the car is 1/8 scale smooth power...

And as for your motor being burned-out my friend it's rare but possible. Usually the speed control is the most sensitive out of the two. Because the speed control is timing computerized timing if it goes wonky well you will hear weard sounds.. good luck because when the car runs it is that fun..

So what happend? did you call Kurt@URCHobby ??? or RedCat? Anyone Else?
Is the diff case cracked?? Only a little crack can cause the pinion to not engage to the ring that is what happend to mine I had to hit a tree at 40mph to crack it though Put it all back together and it acted similar to what you are saying. Check the case or the pinion shim could have changed????

I had the same thing happen to me and it was just one of the joints came loose, I had also had issues with the motor that made it do the same thing, but if you have checked everything the only thing I would think it would be is maybe you have a busted magnet in the motor, but that would e very unlikely. If you already have the issue resolved i would like to know what the issue was for future reference.
