That body looks sweet, how did you make it? Just got this in the mail! Can't wait to put it in. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2084007

I made a mold and used a shop vac.i just put a velineon vxl 3 in mine running 3 cell lipo

Daverr 03-30-2015 08:17 AM

Why cant I post pictures any more the option is not there any more

a-android-b 04-06-2015 10:51 AM

Not sure, I can still post pics, I ordered a 48T .8 mod epx spur gear for a little more top end and room for more pinion.

a-android-b 04-06-2015 10:54 AM

I also just put in a metal servo saver and bearings in the servo saver and other arm that holds up the steering Ackerman plate. It steers way better than it ever did and shouldn't fall apart near as fast, I'm thinking about ordering an earthquake center diff and motor mount, it looks as though it may bolt right in!

a-android-b 04-07-2015 08:57 PM

For anyone looking to upgrade the power system I highly recommend the wp-sc120 hobbywing esc (only esc I've ever seen/used that is actually totally waterproof), and a four pole motor. The four pole is so smooth and even power. Start ups are way better and now it is possible to drive even slower, slow driving is a pain with 2 pole motor.

Daverr 04-08-2015 07:47 AM

What servo saver did you use. Can you post a picture. I cant get mine to track straight so I cant come close to opening it up with the vxl 3. in it.all the linkage is slopy

Just got a vortex body, fits pretty good with a little trimming. The servo saver I got is a cheap 1 10 hpi aluminum one and bought a spring at a hardware store. I need to shim the spring a little cause now it's starting to loosen uphttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2095135

Here is a shot of the 4000kv 4 pole motor and a pic of the epx 48t spur gear, it is about 30 % wider than the Caldera gear and goes great with the 17t RRP pinion.

a-android-b 05-10-2015 12:10 PM

Both gears are mod 0.8 so they mesh great and run quiet

a-android-b 05-10-2015 12:15 PM

If you look real close under the dog bone, you can see I cut a pen spring in half and springed all the drive shaft joints, this made the truck a lot quieter as well.

What shocks are you guys running and how do they hold up and how do you like them? With all the weight I I've added, I'm in the need for some beefier shocks.

Im new to the rc hobby and got myself the caldera 10e (stock with brushless motor). I love the truck. Havent had any problems so far... but I am wanting a bit more speed and torq. I have read up alot but most of the post are couple of years old. And im wondering if Traxxas veliaion 3500 kvmotor and 70 amp ezrun esc would still be a good setup. I dont want to overpower the drivetrain and im not wanting to be cheap but not spending alot on it either also plan on adding a heat sink with a fan as well. 2nd what would be a good tire replacement for the caldera? And has anyone ever put dual shocks on their truck ? Hope this thread is still active...

Bought a Caldera 10e MT for my son a month go, It takes a BEATING!! I am impressed, however I have noticed a few things: 1. The motor I his Candera does not have the deep fins, and the ESC is not in a box like a lot of the pics I have seen. Perhaps being newer model it has true 540 size motor? externally it looks the same as others I run in different models. 2. I have had NO servo problems....My son is 7 and beats the truck really hard and no problems at all, again perhaps due to upgrades done along the way? 3. Can anyone give me a list of what parts interchange from other models? I want to upgrade/customize his truck and knowing what other parts I can use will help.

I don't know if it's been fully addressed or not before, but there have been several changes to this truck since the start of this thread and the release of the truck. It's important to note this since most people researching this truck will probably be directed to the URC review by Jang and most info about the truck I've found is outdated.
Changes:
1)The truck now uses hex hardware instead of Phillips
2) A different brushless system is used. Instead of the Ez-Run system, the truck now comes with a Hobbywing 50 amp esc and a true 540 motor, not the 380 in a 540 can motor that come on the original version.
3) The truck now comes with a 3200 Lipo battery instead of the nimh that the original version and with.
4) The problem with the linkages being tight, which was pointed in the URC YouTube review of the truck, seems to have been addressed as all the ones are mine are free moving.
I believe I've covered everything, I'll update if I can think of anything else.

I'm so glad to hear they are responding to known issues. My truck is still running strong I've, modded it a little more but it always is fun! I was water skipping yesterday on the 3s 5000mah 35c-70c battery in running these days and my friends thought It was just the neatest. I had to turn the punch down on my ESC to 2 of 9 because on 5 kept stripping aluminum hex's. It will still rip mad wheelies on water and will skip to the roof with the pull of the trigger. Will post a video soon.

i looked and looked but could not find the 17mm hex upgrade kit. Man I wish i would have ordered it a year ago when it was available for $16! So i ordered BS936-003 that is the 17mm hub itself, it comes with hexes, and ordered the BS936-004, those are the stub axles that accept the 17mm hub. I ordered from a certain online place because they were the only ones that had everything in stock. Wrong! After i ordered they informed me that 3 of the 4 stub axles are back ordered, they said the wait will be 2-4 weeks! I wonder why those stub axles are getting so hard to find? Are they not making very much of them? Are they so popular no one can keep them on the shelf? I can't wait to be able to run wheels with 17mm hexes! Hopefully i can turn the punch up a little then.

What's the word with the version 2 upper links? They look more rigid. Will they go right on my old caldera?

Kjanora10 04-04-2020 06:26 AM

How fast is the stock Caldera 10e

I want to buy this truck but i want a truck that goes at least 25 mph stock .It comes with a 7.4v 3200mah lipo battery.
