Chainging a EQ 8E into a AS 8E

OK, you RC Gurus, I am changing my EQ 8E over to an AS 8E. I am buying all the parts to do so now. Including new spur gear/motor gear. Can some one please explain to me the differance between an EQ 8E 49/12 and the AS 8E 46/15 gear sets ? I am a newbee, please tell me why I want to change my 49/12 to a 46/15. Thanks ! Besides a new body, and a front bumper guard, what else do I need to change ? Thanks so much for your input !

Hey there, I did something similiar, I converted my EQ8E into a Backdraft 8e. Wasnt too hard. Just had to buy the parts needed to change it over.

In your case, you will the body mounts, front and read bumpers, body and wheels/tires.

As far as the spur pinion set up. I went to the 46t/15t set up for mine since I made it a backdraft.

I belive this affects performance and speed.

Keep us posted.

Thanks, I'll take pics and relay progress as parts start showing up. Hey, did you notice a huge performance/speed change when you went to the 46/15 gear set ? From what I can see the EQ8E and the AS8E use the same body mounts (BS801-008). Again, Thanks for your input ! Smitty

Way Cool ! Thanks ! How does it handle now ?

RE: Chainging a EQ 8E into a AS 8E

Thanks, XT.

each gallery, was a different day. (due to awaiting parts to arrive via delivery)

Well, once I added the wheels/tires, and the 12mm to 17mm adapters* I saw a huge handling difference. It no longer wanted to flip backwards or pop a wheelie. And to me, is faster.

(needed those since 1/8 scale buggy wheels require a 17mm hex, where the default ones on the EQ8E are 12 mm)

So, since you are doig the sam but making yours an Aftershock 8e, you are in for some good times.

Glad to help or offer any insight. I am sure you will love it as an AS8E.
It will handle great. No more wheelie popping, no flip overs, (unless on purpose LOL) trust me, running as this will be cool. Cant
wait to see you progress pics.

Again, welcome, Smitty.

OK, My EQ8E is now a SCT8E. Much more controlable, the Vortex body fit just right. Tires stick out just alittle but I like the look. Front and Rear bumpers accualy protect the body by being outside the body. I added a spare tire for looks. I am enjoying this SCT much more then the Monster truck. On to the pics.

What a good conversion. Looks like it actually began life an an AS8E. Good work, Smitty.
How does it handle? I can only imagine its stable and fast.

RE: Chainging a EQ 8E into a AS 8E

Exactly Edge, it is much more controlable and is just as fast as before.  I like it alot !  I am going to experiment with shocks and tires now.  I got to find a dirt track and see how it handles in the dirt.  Dose good on grass and concreet.

When I was converting my EQ8E over.. the first thing I did was add the adapters and 17mm hexes and wheels. I took it for a test run over at a parking lot behind oue house, I was amazed at the handling, I gave it full throttle a few times and it had no desire to flip over or pop a wheelie, that made me feel good.

You are going to have a blast with it. The stability is amazing.

OK, just got to run my SCT 8E (former EQ 8E) at the coast(sand). Ran it around for 5 to 10 minutes, a couple small jumps, a couple high speed passes. Brass motor gear strips out on me. Mesh too tight / too loose? Sand ? Oh yea, I am now running a steel spur gear. This was the 15t brass motor gear. Any armchair qb'ing here ? heeelp... lol

Mesh Mesh Mesh.......... can't say more about getting the mesh right......I ran my EQ now BD convert and never any probs with stock pinion and spur............ I like the stock spur............ quiet and cheap. Go back to stock pinion and spur and don't worry about theold paperbetween the pinion and spur trick...........you just want a "tick"of play ............hmmmm.....I may do avid on that................ never looked back after figured thatout....................

TY Formula87 !  I set it up with just a "tic" of play and it seems to be perfect.  I went back to the stock spur and pinion gears.  Next question, I plan to go play in the sand some more, how do I protect my eletronics yet allow it to "breath" ?  Pantyhose ?  TIA !

I would maybe build a case around the ESC the motor and servo will probably be okay. I had my Traxxas slash out on the beach with a castle ESC and motor and just made sure I blew it off well after som e bashing.

I have often thought of building a box around the esc of my backdraft 8e. Hmmm.
