Avalanche XP

Do people still talk about the Avalanche XP? Is Redcat even still on these forums??I'm an old school racer thats been out of it for 20+ years. But I just picked up a new Avalanche XP for my 10 year old that has shwon some interest in racing. I looking at reviews and comments on these forums, it looks like I made the right decision with Redcat and the Avalanche XP. Put I'm struggling to find quality hop ups for the car. Any suggestions on an exhaust?

Redcat has just release an updated version of the XP, the XTR.

The only upgrades i could find on their site were fuel filters and alloy clutch shoes.

If I owned one, I would upgrade the steering servo to a metal gear one with more torque.

Thanks! That is the plan when the stock servo's wear out.

Gonna be awhile before that happens. My 10 year old son won't be thrashing it too hard. But his dad (me) ran it into a light pole about 10 minutes after we broke in the motor...OUCH!

New parts are on the way for round 2</p>

poles, fences, curbs...none of these seems to go well with rc's...lol

Redcat is updating their site and will have parts coming in for the XTR avalanche...which shares most of the same parts. basically i think they just changed the center diff.

Anyway, once they have all the parts for the XTR their may be upgrade parts listed that will work on the XP as well.

But chassis wise, the XP doesnt need much in the way of upgrades. You could always upgrade the motor to some high-end racing engine. As for the pipe, its already a decent tuned pipe and i dont think youll find a pipe that will increase the power much (if any)

You can change the tires/rims for a new look someday.

Yes the avlanche XP was a blast back in the day I raced mine for 2 years. The new XTR is even better they have gotten rid of the long clutch bell which you could only find from redcat now with the standrard clutch bell on the new XTR you are able to fine tune even better and get even more speed. The chassis setup is the same as the Monsoon. Yes the engine and the pipe is a great combination plenty of power and a different pipe will not give any more power.

Thats all great info, Thanks!

The more I read the more disturbed I am about ending up with the XP. Although it seems to be a great platform, I wish I had known it was a 4 year old model. Oh well, if my son really takes to it like I did back in the day, this will only be the beginning for us.

The XP is a great little platform even though it is a bit older. One thing I would suggest though is buy an extra clutch bell or two.

Redcat I found is not so hot about keeping parts in stock for retired models.

Has the clutch bell been an issue with the Avalanche? I've been trying to do a ton of research on it so I can have all the spare parts I need. This is the first time I've seen anyone post of the Clutch Bell.

I'll definitely pick a couple up, thanks!

ShredderGuy 12-29-2011 06:54 AM

RE: Avalanche XP

No, it was not really an issue. But, since it is specific to the XP only I would pick a few up. There are a few other drive line products that are specific it looks like from the schematics.

RE: Avalanche XP

No was not an issue at all I changed my engine 3 times and still use the same clutch bell that came with it!!!!!!!!!!!! NO PROBLEMS.

RE: Avalanche XP

Well any other suggestions on spare parts for the XP let me know. Like I said earlier, I used to run race / rc's but that was 20 years ago. I'm just now getting back into it with my son and all of these cars and a lot of the technology is new to me.

THanks for the help guys!

The pins that hold on your rear bearing holders and the a arms front and back keep plenty of these pins on hand they tend to bend easy especially when racing. Get some replacement servos for when the factory servos go out they are no good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I want to go ahead and upgrade the servers to metal gears right away. Then I'll have the factory servers as back ups if I ever need them. Do you have any suggestions on what I might get and where to get a fair deal on them? I'm looking for bullet proof not bang for buck.

I'm not familiar with the pins for the rear bearing holders. Will have to look into that and make sure Ihave a few. But I did just buy a complete set of wrist pins from EBay, I'll have to look and see of they are included in the set.

RE: Avalanche XP

Hi, this is my first post and im bumping a lil bit this thread, I have a quick question about my avalanche xp.

I lost the screw on my drive shaft that locks it to 4x4, and I'm a little lost in finding the piece number. Now my truck is 2x4 and its a little bit annoying :/

If you can help, thank you!

Syclone354 05-15-2016 05:39 AM

Hi all,
I figured id revive an old thread instead of a new one.

My Avalanche XP has been awesome. I finally had a semi-catastrophic failure and need help finding the parts.

The clutch finally failed. I have new aluminum shoes but have not been able to locate replacement clutch bearings. If anyone knows the size or a part number that would be great!

I looked at the website and the parts liat for the xtr since they are both listed as sh .28 but they have part number for everything but bearings on the engine exploded view.

Syclone354 05-15-2016 05:59 AM

LOL of course i would find it after posting. I found the clutch assembly part number and the clutch bell part number.

When i searched eBay for the bell part number 83008 a couple listings for the bearings came up. I found the 83003 clutch assembly for not much more money.

Since the bell is specific to the xp, and we have two of them, i figured the spare bell flywheel shoes etc will come in handy.
