"OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

This Post is for anyone who owns a Himoto or Redcat Racing BUGGY (preferbly 1/10th scale). They are the same models just different names.

The smartech cars have their own thread have proven to be a very cheap and good car. (servos are not good but no RTR is perfect)

I know many people tell you to "get yourself a real hobby grade RC", but they don't understand that these cars make it easy to get into and not fear ripping these things apart and learning on them. I would not so quickly have torn into mine if I got a $500+ vehicle, and would not have driven it as hard (aka, had as much fun tearing the hell out of).

So Please post your questions, experiences and suggestions/tweaks on this thread so that others can learn or make an educated decision on if this car is a possibility for them.

For those reading this - if you see posts that say "had one - it broke and was a piece of..." just know you can go on any thread for any brand car and see people saying the same things - so take it all with a grain of salt.

NOTE: THERE WAS ANOTHER THREAD THAT WAS STARTED ORIGINALLY FOR BUGGIES, AND GOT TAKEN OVER BY BAD REPORTS OF THE TRUCKS. THE TRUCKS SEEM TO NOT PREFORM WELL BUT THE BUGGIES SEEM TO BE HOLDING UP TO REVIEWS SO FAR.

IF YOU WANT TO POST ABOUT THE TRUCKS PLEASE FOLLOW THIS THREAD. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3705430/anchors_3705430/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#3705430]Trucks thread[/link] IF YOU SEE SOMEONE POST ABOUT THE TRUCK PLEASE POST THEM TO THE TRUCK THREAD. HOPEFULLY WE CAN SHARE SOME GOOD INFO.

how do you get the upgrade parts made out of aluminum that are shown on the redcat racing website

RedcatRacing 01-16-2006 09:39 AM

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

Currently aluminum parts are only available for our 1/8 scale buggies.

We do expect to have aluminum parts available on the 1/10 cars within 90 days.

The aluminum parts for the 1/8 cars are available at www.redcatracing.com simply click on one of the 1/8 cars and then click on the parts link.

We are looking for writers of technical info sheets, beginner help for the Redcat Racing product line.

As many of you have read in other posts, Redcat Racing is fairly new in the RC Nitro biz but have had great success with Redcat Motors which is a large ATV importer in the US with over 600 dealers nationwide and sales of over 50,000 ATV's in the last 2 years.

I have always been an avid Nitro guy and began Redcat Racing about 6 months ago.

If anyone is interested in creating these types of information sheets, please email [email protected] with the subject line being: "Info Sheets"

We would be willing to pay for the info sheets or swap for Redcat Racing product.

So, if you have the ability to use a digital camera, technical and or basic writing skills, please shoot me an email if you are interested.

I've broken 4 a-arms, a rear hub, and the rear diff on my tornado XP. I for one can't wait until aluminum a-arms hit the market. I've made one a-arm out of aluminum already.

It's like every single time the car rolls over, an a-arm eats it.

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

Bump.

I haven't bothered to take the rear diff apart to view the carnage. I've just been putting around with my XXTCR in the meantime.

Hey "trpastor"

Is this thread suppose to be about the 1/10's or 1/8th's??...the title of the thread is 1/10 but in your first post you stated "preferably 1/8"....which is it?....

I'm starting to get confused with all the different threads now...LOL!;)

It says 1/10 th buggy so Im assuming the Tornado XL and XP. Just to let everyone know Im a Red Cat Dealer located in Las Vegas, NV. If yopu are in need of parts you can e-mail or call [email protected] or 702-336-1542. I sell for less than the Red Cat site. I also have some upgraded parts available. So far we have the Carbon Fiber Front Shock Tower 70-1001 for $18.00 and the Carbon Fiber Upper Plate 70-1002 for $49.99. Both are for the Tornado XL or XP however if anyone has the Volcano STX this is the same upper plate. I am also a Pay Pal Acct. holder so you can pay by credit, debit, or check.

Yeah...I see he fixed the line in his post where he originally said "preferably 1/8" after I pointed it out...

Thanks for clarifying that "trpastor". ;)

Just got my Tornado XP.
I'm new to R/C and really enjoy the car so far.( Ran my first 5 tanks and ready to do some tune up)
My only complain so far is the lack of information of the Manual and no prime on the gas tank.

Chubbysdad 01-29-2006 07:08 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

To prime it, hold your finger over the exhaust and pull it and watch the fuel as it works it way to the carb. Then your good to go.

wildspeed 01-29-2006 08:23 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

chubbysdad, Thanks for the tip.

What is the purpose of the Throttle Reverse Direction Switch (8) and the Throttle Adjustement Switch(9) on the remote ?

When I tried 8 tonight the car just went full throttle and almost lost it, as for 9 it's seem to move the neutral position and need to adjust the trottle inching all the way for the car not to move.

snowolf 01-29-2006 10:53 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

the throttle rev switch makes it so you have to push to go then swith back it makes pull to go
i selected the swith that pull to go push to brake
number 9 turns on the brake when throttle released i use that setting brakes when throttle off till i learn to brake better

snowolf 01-29-2006 10:54 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

make sure to check the trim button for the throttle is increases the speed also without pulling the trigger

Chubbysdad 01-30-2006 08:16 AM

RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

Wildspeed,
Make sure if you choose to use those other options you set up the truck first before you take off. It will change the throttle position. You cant just change those buttons and expect the car to be set up perfect..

Do the tornado parts interchange with any other manufacturers? A-arms? Do these break easily?

Hi camshaftprelube (or anyone else).

I agree. I am very disappointed that every twitch or rollover or anything besides a straight run the control arm gets eaten. How did you make one out of aluminum - would love to do that. Advise would be helpful.

Thx.

My first question is.....what are the temps there right now?....I know it's winter in CT. right now so how cold is it outside when you are running the car?

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

its pretty warm out side. 50F Deg.

snowolf 02-07-2006 02:21 AM

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

it got up to around 6f deg today i think to temp does affect the plastic parts when it was around 30-35 didnt break after about an hour in less than 10 deg plastic is stiff

im not blaming the car at all in fact i like it and will be offering them for sale in MN very soon

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

hello all. Just wanted to brag a little about my himoto cyclone. I am certainly biased seeing as how I am a newby and have only owned one nitro car and that only since x-mas. However it still bugs me to hear people flaming these buggies. The only problems I've had are ones that I created myself. The first time I really got running after break in My buggy broke after about 5 whole minutes. IT seems that they don't stand up well to high speed front in collisions with brick houses. My point is that I really think most breakages are due to driver error. Anyway after fixing a front lower arm and finally determining the true function of the idle adjustment screw I was up and running. Since then I haven't had a problem one. And I haven't been easy on this car. I even broke the fabled "don't let your friends drive your RC" rule. And in his yard instead of mine. It's a lot rougher and we bashed the car up pretty good. We noticed after refuelling that the body didn't want to line up with the fastener holes anymore. We soon figured out that we had bent the rear shockproof bar in, BUT IT WASN'T BROKE! I just bent it back out and put the body back on. That beats ordering new parts, because you snapped instead of bent, some high dollar super rigid material, six ways to sunday. All in all I,m really glad I went with the himoto. I was able to get into the hobby for a minimal amount of money and although getting started was a little frustrating I'm having almost to much fun with this buggy now. Oh and in case your wondering why I would let my best friend drive my car, (and believe me he was not easy on the thing) it's because I have to get him hooked on the hobby. He has a bigger yard than I do. Just about track size I'd say! Later folks! P.S. This is for all the newbys: Dont let it get you down! It took me more than a month to get the hang of this nitro stuff. Just keep reading posts and asking questions. Go ahead and shave your hair so you dont have to pull it out, but DONT GIVE UP!!!! You'll get it running!!! Good luck! J-boy P.P.S. Thanks everybody1 t

I too am new to the whole world of nitro RC, but for the money I spent on this buggy, $169 it cant be beat for a starter car. The buggy started up on the 4th pull and after a few min of tuning ran like a champ during its breakin period. I cannot complain about this buggy at all. People need to set their expectations low and realize that these vehicles are great starters into the hobby. There are 2 things wrong with the buggy, the front a-arm broke because I smacked into a concrete patio pad (anything plastic running into concrete will break and it is not redcats fault that I was a tard and smacked into it), and the throttle trim stopped working but a quick call to redcat racing resulted in them sending me a new controller asap for free. I have since ordered replacement parts for my buggy and have started looking into bigger and badder nitro rc vehicles. My friend has a Thunder Tiger SSK which he paid $300 for and every time we run it something breaks. If you are into doing huge jumps and running over boulders these vehicles are not right for you, if you would like to get into the hobby for minimal $ this is the way to go.

Devin,
Just an FYI, I broke the same part (tree attacked me) and was able to repair using 2 part epoxy and joining the pieces together, after set up I reinforced with 2 part putty epoxy and its working great. It's also alot easier than completely removing the a arm and installing a new one.

hi
my name it matt. I'm very new the the nitro world, i was wondering how to stop the wheels from spinning with out using the brakes. or are the wheels always going to spin a little? ( running with a redcat xl) if anybody could help that would be nice thanks!

Chubbysdad 02-18-2006 11:56 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

If you hold the car in the air, the wheels will still spin with the car on the ground, it shouldn't move. It might try to jump or hop a little but other than that, you might have to lower the idle.

redrooster 02-19-2006 02:10 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

thanks, whats an easy way to know everthing is tuned well.

Chubbysdad 02-19-2006 02:19 PM

RE: "OFFICIAL" Himoto / Redcat Racing 1/10th BUGGY

If everything is tuned well, it will take off quick, not sputter at high speed, when the car is on the ground it should idle nice with out the car moving and the last thing the temp should be around 230-265.
