Here is my Volcano STX (the one with wide stance). I did few more things to it since last time. If anyone asks - that thing flies around the corners without even lifting a tire.
So here is a list of mods in order of time of occurence Traxxas clutch spring (LOL) MT2 alum front and rear knuckles and c-hubs MT2 Axles MT2 Steering Assembly Custom extended A-arms, linkages and dogbones Volcano SV tires HPI vented Clutchbell Jaguar radio and servos (same as Team Associated only cheaper) Custom painted E-Savage Baja TT body (the paint is a three tone kameleon - its a killer in different angles, picture doesn't give it a justice) Traxxas T-MAXX 3.3 Shocks Custom made front bumper with dual shocks (those are my stock Volcano shocks) THS 1010R Tuned Pipe AND ... OS .18 CV-RX Engine (not really on the truck yet - I am still waiting for it) Can't wait to rip it all apart LOL Tell me what you guys think |

i am thinking of buying a nitro truck... i just dont know what to get... i saw the red cat and was wondering.. its much cheaper than the Traxxas T-Maxx 2.5 which is what i am thinking of getting... im just unsire of the Red Cat. I am not going to race or anything...just looking to play around... is the Red Cat realy an ok brand. I am wondering because its much cheaper..thanx

I bought my first Redcat Volcano SV in January, and positively loved it. I bought a Redcat Hurricane XP in March, and have had a blast with it! If you read this thread and any others too, to learn about R/C trucks and cars, there is a wealth of knowledge that is available. My buddies have Traxxas, and they spent a lot more than I did, and have had the same problems with, crash, fix and run. I am glad I went with Redcat!

which model are you looking at? The earthquake and hurricane are there better models. Your not going to compare a tmaxx to a redcat volcano thats for sure. They are good starter cars.

Truthfully, the 1/10th scale cars are ok, but the 1/8th scale cars are up to par with everyone else, they hold up well to abuse (trust me about that, I beat the life out of mine on purpose so I can see what they will take) I have yet to break my Hurricane 1/8th buggy, I still haven't had a customer come back yet with a broken hurricane, I think the clutch bell on the Earthquake is a week point had a few people break those, but I think the originals were cast instead of machined, they looked brittle, but they look machined on some of the new ones. I'd take a Redcat 1/8th over a traxxas any day, less problems, we have people bring us cars to work on all the time and I would say 99 percent of them are T-Maxxes, matter of fact I have 4 of them lined up next to my work bench to repair and about 8-% of the time it's engine or easy start problems on the T-Maxx or any other traxxas car, crappy set up. Anyway 1/8th scale Redcat or even duracrap is the way to go.

I live in London, ON, Canada and just picked up a Volcano STX (it's actually a Hi-Speed Tyrannosaurus but it's the same thing). Love it! The only thing is support is limited in Canada as far as I can tell. I emailed RedCatRacing about shipping parts about a week ago and they have not responded.
I know there are stores (including ebay) that will ship from the USA but waiting for the parts as they pass through snail mail and border customs is a drag. Does anybody know of any dealers/contacts in Canada that support Redcat/Himoto/Hi-Speed? Preferably in Ontario? It's a long shot but I might as well ask! Much appreciated! Mark |

If you can't find any dealers in Canad, we do ship to Canada and it takes about 2 to 3 days by air. There was a guy here named Himoto Canada or something like that, but I don't know his website or email address and I think he might have sold all his stuff out.

Well first off you don't have all the weight and drag of that foolish drive train they put in there. Second the lower gear gets you off the line faster and the tall trans gear helps spread that power across the power band of the engine and make use of both the top end rpm and bottom end torque. with a single speed trans.. Gear changes that make the acceleration of the hole faster will lower your top end. And conversely.. gearing that makes it accelerate out of the hole slower will raise your top speed. There is no way that gearing can make the low end acceration faster while still making the top speed more. Thats impossible.. Not that im doubting you.. I just don't want others to get the wrong impression about gearing.. its either one or the other with a single speed trans.. but I do agree on less drag will help in both top speed and acceleration

I was only kidding, actually it improves the top end because of the way the factory trans is set up, it limits the speed to what we all know as 30 ish mph, but you actually gain alittle speed on the top side when you change to the single gear. It more or less makes better use of the power curve. I agree with you, about the gearing though, there is no way to get a gain on both ends unless in this case you go from a crappy dragging rattly over redundant piece of crap like that. Now if you were to put a higher gear on there of course your going to be laggy from the bottom end till you hit optimal speed for the gearing, but in Dennises diffence he went from a seriously limiting drive train to a larger single center direct drive gear and tested a bunch of different clutch bells till they found the gearing that would give you the best take off and a bit more top end.

the volcano has a .18 in it. i have the single speed setup in one of my tornado xp's. i am using a 15 tooth clutch bell with it, here it the link to it, its not sped up like allabouts, lol. put a 15tooth bell on your single speed tornado and you will be fine.

17 tooth will replace the stock one, a 15 tooth i like because it gives you a little more low end power and you dont loose much top end. I went with a 15 tooth bell because the tires i have on it are a little bigger than the stock ones so i wanted to keep low end. 2 teeth is not a big difference. the lower the teeth the more low end power but you loose high end, the more teeth the more top end but the lower end will not be so great.
