I have a volcano epx pro and just bought another one for my son. we were just running them and noticed his was much slower than mine is. the odd thing is , in reverse his is just as fast as mine and is obviously much faster in reverse than foward. does anyone know why and what i need to do? seems like something is set backwards. thanks for your time,

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
So I am looking at eventually getting a body for my volcano s30.  I found ones at proline. So  is what body will fit better, "monster Truck" bodies or the "1:10 truck" bodies?  my guess is the 1:10 bodies?

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Ihave a Volcano S30 with just over a gallon of fuel through it. This is my first R/C, so I'm still learning alot. Iwas driving normally, and all of a sudden Inoticed a sudden drop in power, and by the time Igot the truck back to me it was hardly moving. When the engine revs, the clutch engages and at least some ( Ican't see them all) of the gears in the center diff turn. The driveshafts going to the front and rear diffs, however, just sit there. Its making odd sounds, so is there some kind of bearing in the center diff that could have failed, and is this normal at ~1 gallon of fuel?

On the maintenceside of things, Iclean and oil the air filter regularly, and blow all the dust and dirt off the truck with an air compressor when I'm done running it, as well as burn all the fuel out of the engine and use after-run oil. On the side of replacement parts, however, all I've changed is a single glow plug. Is there any maintence that needs to be done anywhere on the transmission (regularly or otherwise) or with the clutch or anything (ie. special cleaning, oiling, etc...), or do most parts just run as-isuntil they fail?

Lastly, there is some kind of pin (looks like its supposed to be a sheer pin, but a little strong) that goes through the dogbones and causes them to rotate with the fromt/rear diffs. One of these has fallen out in the front, making the truck essentally 2-wheel drive. I'll call Redcat and get another, but is that just a freak accident or should Ihave done something to prevent it from coming out (glue, loctite, whatever)?

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
<div>Yeah, the gear mesh is good. That's one of the first things I checked. The gears in the center diff turn, but the other 2 diffs do not.</div><div></div><div>Thanks for the info on the drive cups. I didn't know about that. However, I've run the truck for over a gallon and had no problems, other than as-yet undiagnosed problem in the center differential. That would be 2 full sets of drive cups by now, which is more expensive than a set of failed dogbones. Is there some disadvantage to replacing the drive cups less often, and having an occasional broken dogbone, or would that be a cheaper, equally effective route?</div>

volcanoman01 08-24-2011 02:59 AM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
The dog bones wear grooves in the drive cups that inturn bind up and snaps the pins off the dog bones or just swist them off so if u dont replace the drive cups it will just keep breaking dogbones. If your center dif is turning the drive cups then the problem has to be in the front and rear dif I  would take them out clean, greas and  inspect them .

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
To the guy that was having problems with idle screw vibrating loose. either put some blue loc-tite on the screw or do what i did. I wrapped some teflon tape around it so it would fit tighter. hope this helps

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
ok so today I was doing some tuning to my volcano s30 and found  some parts rattled off.<div>
</div><div>1hex screw</div><div>1bearing</div><div>3 different size washers</div><div>
</div><div>I have no clue where they could of come from, tried looking at the scamatics and all around the truck,  I am pretty sure it was off the exhaust side</div><div>
</div><div>If anyone could help me it would be great! :)</div>

So when I was unboxing my s30 there was a part with the antenna tube, loocks like its a wire attached to a small box, and it has a little needle on the loop, anybody know what its for?

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
That is called the binding plug, it is used to get the radio to talk to the transmitter if they loose touch.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

If it looks like this , its a bind plug.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
google HOW TO USE A BIND PLUG ON A RC TRUCK should find a vidio on how to use it .I havent had to use one yet. Shouldent need to use it unless you are changing your radio system.
