Redcat or Himoto?
To start off, this is my first thread on rcu. I have a XTM og mammoth with a XTM 4.57 in it. It runs like a champ but I need to get used to driving a nitro truck. Me and my dad (who pays for parts) are getting frustrated with the price of 1/8 nitro monster truck parts. I have been doing nothing but reading posts and looking at these 1/10 scale "off-brand" rc's. I was shocked to see a rtr truck for $180 and how cheap the parts were! My truck was $400 new but i got it used for $220, I have only had it for about 5 months and have spent waaaay too much on it. The main thing is chassis flex and such. A new mammoth chassis is $80, a new volcano chassis is $13.99. So the reason I am posting is because I want something that isn't too costly, but will help me learn how to drive better. I have been looking at the himoto viper and the redcat volcano. I think they are the same but don't know what company to buy from. If I get the redcat i will buy from clermontmotorsports.com I am not sure where to buy a himoto though. IF you have any other suggestions on what kind of vehicle to buy, I am open for suggestions.
Thanks, Will |
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Yeah, Redcat and Himoto are the same. They use all of the same parts and everything, I say go where it is the cheapest to buy. Best of luck to ya!

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Yeah the Redcats and Himotos are exactly the same except for the different branding so choosing which one to buy might rest in parts & support backup. It goes without saying though that you will have to do 99% of your parts buying through the internet for both brands. But I have the 1/8 hurricane/torpeda and its been tremdous value to say the least. Not only are they cheap but they are actually pretty well built and I have had very little damage in over 18mths. If you get Redcat I think clermontmotorsports.com will sort you out but if you are looking for Himoto, there are a few places:

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Well, I think I'm going to buy from clermont when i get the money. Now my decision is if I want a truck or buggy and which one. I want to keep it under $200 w/o shipping.
Thanks again, Will |
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
the buggy is pretty cool, its different, you dont see many 1/10 nitro buggys around. I would suggest clermont too, he has great prices and fast shipping. He's been here since day 1

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
save up for the 1/8th scale hurricane in my opinion. Much better car for the money. I am not knocking the smaller ones its just an opinion.
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
sure, the hurricane is night and day different, i guess for the few dollars more its definately worth it.

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Well, I'm not really trying to spend a whole lot on this purchase. I'm just looking for something that is pretty cheap. I have a XTM mammoth but it cost sooo much to fix it. Since I'm a noob and not very good driving it yet, it is costing me loads of cash that I don't have to run my mammoth. That's where the volcano comes in. I have a couple spare clutch springs laying around and things like that. Not to be repetitive but, the reason for the volcano is: 1. The cheap price of the truck. 2. Parts are very cheap. 3. From what I have read they are moderately reliable. 4. It is only going to be run of grass and pavement, possibly if I feel confident I will take it to the track with my mammoth. 6. It looks cool [8D]
Thanks :) Will |
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Dont forget about allaboutfunhobbies and rufaster. They offer good prices and rufaster has free shipping on all there rc cars purchased.
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
I tried rufaster but it says I need a password?
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
for the money you cant beat the volcano, from what i understand all the new single speeds come with a steel clutch bell and better clutch spring too.
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
I knew what you meant man, but I just don't like these companies. I knwo they are ok cars and what not but its just a preference.
CHEVY! |
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
Haha, I've been reading about them. AT first I was sketchy too, But I spent like 2 days doing nothing but reading posts on this forum and they seem just as solid as my mammoth, just cheaper [8D].

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
whats up bro? I have been thinking of buying the mammouth. Is it any good? Does it break alot ? Or do you just wreck alot? LOL
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
mammoth takes a LOT to get it to be competitive... or good. Save your money and invest it in a better truggy.
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
for $99 buy a new shockwave from www.redcatracing.com problem solved..
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
The RTR Mammoth is not as good as the kit and it costs no more than the other truggies to up grade because the initial cost is so much less. Actually the Mammoth has better and more upgrades than most of the rest and there designed that way. I think they should sell at a higher price and put more of the good stuff in right off the bat[&o]

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
I have the OG (original) Mammoth. I broke the 24.7 and slapped in a XTM 457. Screams like a banshee.
Hey FlyinG where is the shockwave located? Will |

RE: Redcat or Himoto?
I meant on there website... All I see is the tremor, lightning, tornado, volcano, tsunami, hurricane and earthquake...
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
I guess I just like the fact that it has the 2 speed tranny in it. The only down fall is it has no slipper clutch. Prolly would strip alot of gears. The only other truggy I can find with the 2 speed in it is the losi lst2. 600 bones is to much for me.
thanks for the replies , Fong[8D] |
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
so fong, its too mush for you huh???
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
bro, its a good truck, do you plan on racing? everyone will always have a comment about every car, truck, buggy, truggy etc.
|
RE: Redcat or Himoto?
You know me Eddie can't spell. Lmao. Are you talking to me? With the ? about racing. If so, no I am not just going to beat the sh-t out of it. I just keep shopping around for a new ride. I know I want to go 1/8 with a 2 speed tranny. This looks awesome,[link]http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=43532[/link] but also alot of money. I could afford one if I could stay off the golf courses. LOL
Any input on a new ride, please feel free to express. FONG[8D] |
