monsoon/losi 8/jammin

ok, so i done my research on the avalanche/savage (got some great info) now i would like you guys opinions on how the monsoon stacks up against other 1-8 truggys like the jammins and hobao hyper st,etc i know it got a good review ,but i want to hear from the guys on here ,i know you guys have lots of time driving these things to hell and back (some REAL testing) and wont sugar coat anything.

the best would be dennis and his buddy, they have seen and raced them on the track. I have heard they can really hold thier own on the track and from the bashing side of things, they bash great.:D

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

stock vs stock, the jammin would be better to be honest. BUT, with mods the monsoon will run right with them and still alot cheaper.

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

what mods do u recomend for the monsoon to make it race ready?

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

diff fluids, 12 tooth clutchbell, and proline bowtie's and rims 1/2 " offset.

10 tooth is stock, but you really want the 12! Trust me!

BUDDY? Forgot my name already huh? LOL! I run mine with dennis at clermont and yes the diff fluids, and shock fluids need to be changed. Also it sits too high out of the box, but can be changed by removing the shock spacers. Once these are done and of courser everyone upgrades the servos then it will run with the rest on the track. I also have a Hyper ST Pro and a Kyosho ST-RR and like to drive my monsoon just as much and is just as fast. With a spektrum and good servos then youR can adjust you steering alot more and the monsoon will turn on dime . I run the hell out of mine and keep up with everyone else no problem...well... maybe except for you dennis (home track advantage):D

Forgot to say 2 of my friends have losi's and I can keep up no problem.

Doesn't the 12t CB bring down torque a bit?

vnmsgt 01-29-2008 01:36 PM

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

It does but the 10 tooth is WAY too much torque and makes it real hard to drive on a track. 12 tooth is perfect and feels like it should have come from the factory that way. Makes the power come on alot smoother and makes it easier to control in the air without the revs being too high.

if your worried about the low end just put the 12T on with an SH HT pipe (huge difference in power) and also use aluminum clutch shoes, another mod that doesn't hurt is a set of TT ST-1 side guards to protect all the electronics.

i have to say i like my monsoon. right when i got it i tore it apart, might as well of come disassembled. i changed all fluids, had to change some shims in the diffs, they were binding alittle to much, may be able to put them back in after a little run time, modded it to be able to use regulare clutch bells and changed the front end to a pbs so it was more stable. now i have all the carbon fiber parts and a stronger steering ackermen coming soon. best part about it, i still din't spend as much as i would if i got a "brand named" truggy.:) p.s. i also took out all the radio gear. i wish they had the almost read to go truggies when i got mine. i also took out the SH .28 that came in it. but hay i love that thing and it is pretty good on the track.

Take some money and go get a camera so we can all see the front suspension!:D

so if you bought the Monsoon and you wanted to do all the recommended upgrades to make it competitive, how much would you have to spend after the initial purchase? Can you list all of the upgrades and what each would cost. I'm considering getting a monsoon very soon if the upgrades are not that much.

i have the monsoon and you dont have to change the whole suspension and stuff, just put some good diff oil in, the proper weights and the 12 tooth clutch bell and your fine, alot of racers i know dont like the pb suspension since the balls can pop out and you know how much is stinks to have your balls pop out:D

vnmsgt 01-31-2008 08:44 AM

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

LOL! ehroof is right.

Diff fluids=20.00, shock fluids=7.00, 12 tooth clutch bell=15.00, spanking $$$ truggies=PRICELESS:D

Also this link has most of what I have done to my monsoon if you want to check it out.

RE: monsoon/losi 8/jammin

I don't know but heres a break down of what i did and where i got it from

- $300 for the truck
- ST-1 side guards $15 shipped amain hobbies
- Futaba 3PM radio and receiver $100 shipped ebay
- SH high torque pipe $34 shipped hobby people
- Aluminum clutch shoes $9 redcat racing
- 12 tooth clutch bell $22 redcat racing ($39 shipped for both bell and aluminum shoes)

So $488 but if you don't do the radio its only $388 to make it up to snuff (i also have a xtm mammoth front bumper and an integy lst1 roll bar neither which are not really necessary but im weird and like to fiddle so i did them)
