Nitro Newbie
Hi. I'm new to RC, just got a Duratrax Evader EXT about 6 weeks ago. Having a blast with it and figured I give Nitro a try when I saw an ad for one for $100. I got a used Tornado BB and just received it in the mail today. I won't get a chance to try it out until the weekend though[&o] A couple of questions for you Redcat experts.....ok, its actually gonna be a bunch, since I'm a total newbie:eek:
First question: The shocks seems awfully soft compared to my stadium truck. The tornado bottomed out when I tossed it down on all 4s at only about a foot's height. Is it supposed to be this soft on buggies? If not, how can I stiffen it? What's a good replacement if I want to just replace them all? |

Theres metal shock upgrades and upgrades for the shock proof plate, it all depends on how much you want to spend on it, all four shocks will run you about $40.00, which I have a set of four for $25.00 there used but in good shape, the reason im selling them because I converted my buggy into a Tsunami, here are a few sites where you can get upgrades and parts.
http://allaboutfunhobbies.com/store/...php/cPath/2_20 .... here free shipping on any order over $10.00 http://www.clermontmotorsports.com/s...rts/Categories http://www.redcatracing.com/parts_se...&partscat=6000 Here is a picture of the shocks I have for sale for the buggy. |
RE: Nitro Newbie
you can dissassemble them and put in thicker shock oil maybe someone on here will know what is stock

RE: Nitro Newbie
Hmm. Only 2 replies? Nobody else wants to chime in on this?
Thanks for taking the time to reply Macanan and Shackwrrr. BTW, Macanan thanks for the offer but I'm going to see if I can first resolve this with Shackwrrr's advice. I'll try another forum to see if I can get the answer I need. |
RE: Nitro Newbie
I have that problam too on my bb it is becouse it is a buggy and it is rilly low to the ground and i have 10,000 Wtg dif fluif in my shocks and i still have that problam... and that S*** is thick. the shock springs are rilly soft to try puting about 1" section of fuel toobing on your shock shafts and that helps a lot. the toobing makes it look like the springs are harder... so put Rilly thick oil in them (and dont use moter oil... use silicone shock fluid)or silicone dif fluid becouse it is the same stuff as the shock fluid. and it comes thicker...) i use dif fluid becouse they come thicker than the thickest shock oil... and you can upgrade to the Alu. shocks i had to becouse one of my shocks was shot (striped and leeded fluid)

Did you still have to use the 10K wt fluid in those also? |
RE: Nitro Newbie
The stiffness of the shocks will be based on what oil you put in, and with the aluminum shocks if you look at my picture of them you will see that there is an adjuster that you can screw down to make the springs stiffer. I make my own oil useing 10W-40 motor oil and multi-purpose lithium flex grease and they mix very well together to get what weight you need for what your doing.

RE: Nitro Newbie
I'll try using the heavy diff fluid, and if that doesn't do it for me I'll talk to you about those aluminum shocks, Macanan. Thanks!

RE: Nitro Newbie
put a magnent up against it, if it doesnt stick it is aluminum. HPI has clutchbells, but some of them you need to get bearings and bushings to make them work, they are posted on the tornado page. Just get a stock clutchbell from a redcat site.
