They are a little more money, but try to get one with a laser sight on it. We use them in our shop to test turbo temps and the like. You can find them on ebay. I don't know if you have a Harbor Freight in your area but they are a tool store that have great prices.

Dont order any of the Field of View guns that have 1:1 optics... they are not accurate at all.
How come? I think mine has a 1:1 optics. I thought that 1:1 means at 1 inch it measures a circle the diameter of 1inch, while a 1:2 would measure at 1 inch a diameter of 2 inches.

My thinking is that the smaller the diameter, the more accurate the measurement is.

Is my thinking backwards? Does 1:2 mean at 1 inch it measure a diameter of 0.5 inch?

Get the O'donell TGX1 i love it it is about 30$ hear in canada but down there i saw it as cheep as 15 or 20$

it is a good one... it has a stop watch, C and F for the US and Canada, Changeable emissivity rateing so you can get a proper Read out with difrent materials...

those are not reliable temp readers. You can string up 5 of them and they'll all read differently.
You don't think the PE-2 is any good. It has 6:1 ratio and adjustable emissivity...plus it slips into your pocket.
