adjusting gear mesh after running ?

i have a question.
once you set your gear mesh and run the truck (volcano) a few times, do you ever need to go back and check the gear mesh ?
does the gear mesh need to be re-set after the spur gear gets some wear on it ?
i have ran my volcano about 10 times so far, and i always inspect the spur gear after each run.
i am not seeing any noticeable wear yet, but i am guessing that since it is a nylon gear that it will wear over time.
i am also guessing that there is no set interval for checking the gear mesh because everyone drives different, and on different terrain.
Thanks.

RE: adjusting gear mesh after running ?

its good to check it frequently....it doesnt hurt to run a piece of paper between the gears and it takes no time, once you get the fill you can check it by holding the clutchbell still and rocking the spur gear back and forth....I check my rc's that have a plastic spur gear each time I run them...I do not check my 1/8th rc's which all have metal spur gears as often but I do check them now and then..

It's not so much the wear that causes the mesh to go out - it's the vibrations loosening the motor mount screws, or big hits causing the motor to shift even if the screws are done up tight, or even warping the chassis a bit. After a big hit it's wise to have a quick visual. It may be worthwhile just penning a mark on the bottom of the chassis showing where the screws should be, then it's easy to check if they have shifted on you.
