Differential lubricants.
 

What do I put inside the diffs to lub them. Seem a little dry and they are making some noise. They don't look sealed so I'm pretty sure WD-40 or some oil won't work. Will grease or something similar work or is there something special? Thanks.

They are not sealed. It would leak out on the Volcano SV.

Are you talking about inside the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02024]diff capsule[/link]? If so, use [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSGB9&P=ML]silicone diff fluid[/link]. Although the capsules on the Volcano are not sealed perfectly, they do OK with the O rings on the shafts and such.

If you mean inside the diff housing ([link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/06045]rear[/link] or [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/06046]front[/link]) between the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02030]pinion[/link] and [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02029]ring gear[/link], then use [link=http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/ctl/52513/image/4/]plain old grease[/link] from a [link=http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41-lV8sM80L.jpg]grease gun[/link] like you use on bearings and such on your car.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to know. I do not see any way that the center diff is sealed. What exactly are you talking about? Maybe I'm missing something. The front and rear diffs are not sealed. The only way I can see using diff fluid in them is if an o-ring is made to fit the bottoms of them.

Are you talking about [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/08023]this[/link]? That is not really a differential, it is a gear reducing transmission. If that is what you are talking about, you most definitely do not want to lubricate that. All lubrication will do is make dirt and dust stick to the gears and trash it faster. And that is true of any exposed gears and shafts. If you really really feel like you want to lubricate open gears or shafts, use a dry lubricant like [link=http://www.gunk.com/CAT_L512.asp]this[/link] or something similar that does not leave oily residue and just leaves a PTFE or silicone coating or similar.

No. That is the one next to the motor. I would never grease or lube it. I'm talking about the front and rear diffs. Not that.

I am sure you already saw this, but just in case, notice on post #4 (4 above this one) that I linked to pictures of the diff capsules and front and rear diff housings. If you have not already, click on the links to see photos of what I am talking about when I talk about the capsule and the housing. Hopefully that will clarify things.

If you are talking about the capsules, then they will indeed hold diff fluid inside them. You remove the 4 screws that hold the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02029]ring gear[/link] on to the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02039]diff case[/link]. Then you remove the ring gear and put the diff fluid inside where the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02066]planetary gears[/link] are. And you will see that there are O rings inside the capsule where the [link=http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/02032]drive cups[/link] go through the case and ring gear. Note that I believe the capsules come without diff fluid when they are stock, but I really do not remember well.

If you are talking about the housings, which are indeed open on the bottom but are fairly well closed and protected from dirt and such by the chassis, then use plain old grease to lube the ring and pinion.
