hi all. I have been flying glow and gas, and some electric for a few years now, and i want to build a relativly small trainer type for my young son to learn on.smoething stable, and slow. Can any one think of a good candidate, One that i can maybe download and print out pdf plans if possible. Thanks alot, Steve. Oh yeah, i have about 10 4 x 8 sheets of this stuff, so after that i want to make one for the big kids.

There are several good trainer type planes on spadtothebone. I would suggest the Debonair or the Spadet LC40 (coroplast version of the LT40)

thanks alot. that is excactly what i was hoping to find. Imagine, the world without internet. How did we do it?Thanks again, Steve. BTW, I tried just winging it and making a tiny biplane with this stuff, It flew a grand total of maybe 100 feet. If ya want to call it flying. maybe this time will be a bit better.

Please remember to use 2 mm coro where it asks for it. If all you have is 4 mm, it gets heavy on the wings which will definitely change the flying characteristics. No need to start on the wrong foot and having troubles right from the get go. RC is supposed to be fun. And the Spadet was my first plane and I love it. Floater with a 40 size Super Tigre motor. And welcome to the addiction.

I have trained several new guys on spads. The Sig LT 40 is my favorite trainer so the SPADET is my first choice. The Debonair is a very close second and is a little bit stouter/simlper in my opinion as well as a bit faster in the air. I think the Deb is similar in flight to the Carl Goldberg Eagle 63 trainer, another fine first plane.
Spads are intended to be modified, I did a Spadet on a gutter pie fuse with a golf club boom and conventional balsa/ monokote tail.
Here is a pic of one with a spad wing and a crutch fuselage. This on was used by my nieces to learn on and several others the wing still lives.

I'm a big Debonair fan myself, but if "small" is what you're looking for, maybe check out Sassy's Rudder Rail.  http://www.spadtothebone.org/PDF/SRR.pdf   I've never built one, but it's supposed to be real stable and slow.  Only problem I see with it is no landing gear, but probably wouldn't be too hard to stick something on there.  The FNS is super easy to build and you can build the 40 size with just 4mm coro.  You can really cut up with one of those, but if you tone the throws down, it would make a great trainer because of all the dihedral, but it doesn't have an LG either.  But if you're going with the 40 size, it's really hard to beat either a Deb or a Spadet.
