I just started checking out these SPAD posts and I think it is really awesome. I just got back into the hobby after 10 yrs away and the SPADs look like fun to build and fly. I have a 40 size trainer but I would like a SPAD to mess around with at a large park that is near my place without worrying about shattering the larger balsa trainer.

Can anyone point me to a website with either plans or a kit for a .10 to .20 size sport type SPAD with ailerons? I think its cool that these planes are made with easily available materials and are easily fixed when crashed. I can't wait to join the SPAD flyers.

I was rer-reading your post and thought of a couple of more things.
Don't underestimate the difficulty of working with coro for one.
Looks easy to cut and it isn't.
Get used to lots of slips and invest in a box of bandaids.
You need sharp stuff to cut coro.
Sharp knives that cut fast when you slip.
i had some balsa to get my little glider flying and balsa is so
easy to work compared to coro, that I can
knock out cut and sand parts in a flash compared
to this plastic stuff.
Oh,you need to steal at least one sign and use it in your plane
to join the club.

A really good tip is to use a piece of aluminum angle as a cutting straight edge. The upright flange acts as a guard[8D]

In 10years I've never had to steal a sign, just ask around and in short time You'll have more signs than You'll know what to do with....

Yup, start at the gas station. Politicians wised up and stopped putting limiting factors on their signs. Dates, running mates, heck sometimes they don't even say what they're running for ALL in the hopes of using the sings again and again. Seems those T posts and 4x8 signs cost a little bit. Even though the rest of the world sees them as rubish they are property and taking one of them is the same as taking the wheels off an stranded car, theft.

Don't stop short of asking at the local campaign office though. Sometimes they have no interest in running again and will allow your to pick up signs if you pick up for them. Heck, if you're really on the ball and get in early, they may allow you morn coro if you help set them up. But gas stations with Coro adds usually have new adds to put up every month and throw the old ones away.

Not once you get the hang of it. You can cut out, fold up and glue a coro fuselage and wing in a night EASY. I agree it can be frustrating at first but if you hang with it, it ends up being a LOT quicker to build with than balsa.

Javelina, check out all the plans at spadtothebone.com.... I think all of the planes in the .15 size don't have LG except for maybe Sassy's Rudder Rail. I'm sure you could modify plans to add LG if you'd like. A Saturday Night Midget might be fun for you, just heed the advice on all the plans when they say stuff like "This plane is pitch sensitive and not for a beginner!".... They mean it. :-) One of my favorite planes is the Friday Night Special. It doesn't have ailerons but the way it flies you'd swear it did. So far I've built the .40 size and the .15 size and they are a LOAD of fun! Me and a friend built an FNS in about 6 hours one night start to finish. Good luck!

I often grab signs for dated events that have occured. I got a half dozen or so 2' x 2' 4 mil auction signs that way.
