4mm coro, combat, .25?
Well, several of us at our club are looking into trying some combat stuff. We had decided to build .40-size SPADS and start having some fun. I went out and purchased 2 8'x4' sheets of 4mm Coro and have been looking at plans.
Tonight, however; the group after discussing safety, decided to limit the planes to .25 size.
Now, I've haven't been able to find the 2mm stuff. I've just spent most of the night looking through plans and boards trying to find a plane/wing combination so that I will be able to build a .25 plane using 4mm. Found a few ideas:
1. Removed sections out of the top coro's inside side and just leaving the outside skin.
2. cut out whole sections and replace with clear packing tape
(I found several references to these, but the link is dead)
So my question is this, are ideas 1 and 2 adaptable to .25 size planes?
What plane would be a good candidate for these suggestions?
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Try the Saturday Night Midget - for a .15. I put a .25 on it and it hauled with a 2 mm wing. I bet it still would with a 4 mm wing [8D]

Isn't the Gnat perfect for what you need? It uses only 4 mm and it looks real simple to build, which is just what you need for club combat.
I've never built one myself, but I think I've read that it flies great with an 0.25.

If you're going to go with a .25 I'd make the HOR without landing gear. 48" straight wing keep it under 2.5 pounds and it will kick butt.

Hor is a good idea. I noticed the plans call for 2mm coro for the wings. Do I just build it with the 4 mm coro and try to lighten it up elsewhere?

Gnat 0.25 has been flown very successfully:

HOR 0.25 is also great. It's what I combat with myself. However, I wouldn't advise on a 4 mm HOR wing.

The HOR plans for .15 engine to as much as you dare. If it flies a .15 with 2mm wing, 4mm and a .25 can be done. My HOR flies with a TT .25GP with plenty of power to spare. It uses a leftover foam wing from DuraBat plane. 3 Channels, I didn't add rudder or rudder servo. And only 1 servo in the wing for bank and yank turning. I Use a micro servo for throttle (HS81/MG), and 3oz bottle for fuel tank.

Just by chance, a couple of weeks ago I got to see a HOR with a .25FX, with wheels and rudder mixing.
Since the HOR doesn't have much of a fuse, the rudder doesn't really add much to the flying (except for ground running on the wheels, maybe). I scrambled and launched my .25LA HOR (one standard ron servo, mini-elevator and 81MG on the throttle... no wheels, but I do have a landing skid) and tried to race that guy, and it seems he's about 20% faster than me.
Probably good for me that he refused my offer to tie on streamers.

By the way S.Shock. You're less than 3 hours from Denton Tx. Come join us for SPADS Over Texas, Fall Edition. We're trying to get a date lined up for either the end of this month or sometime next month. Build the HOR and come join us for combat, and SPAD Fun. KBear (PapaBear on SpadWorld.Net Forum) is in charge.

I used to fly Defenders and liked it. They were good, solid 4 mil ships with a 25 on them. If everyone is using the same airplane I'd go with them. Plus, when you get your shipment of 2 mm from Harborsales you can just swap wings which is what I did and the only difference was a tighter turn and better glide.
