Default How do you tell when the CG is right on a PBF?

Yesterday I put a number of flights on my new SuperTigre .29 powered PBF. What a blast to fly! I was a little worried about hand launching it myself on its maiden flight, but it just flew out of my hand without a problem. Once I got it in trim it flies surprisingly straight. I have just started to explore its flight characteristics, but I am sure this is going to be a lot of cheap fun!

How can I tell if the CG is right? I am used to flight testing my normal planes to find the best CG and was wondering if that technique will work on a PBF?

Here is a picture of my PBF...

Next question:

How do you know when the CG is right on a PBF for hovering?

TIA for your help!

Thanks for the advice, but what I want to know is what flight behavior will I see when the CG is too far back... I know what to expect from a more normal design and am wondering if PBFs are any different...

i think most people fly them at 22-23% of the chord. Further back, and hang on.

I have all my 24x24 pbf balanced at 6" back. They hover and harrier great. I started at 5" back and they did fine there too, but I like 6" back better.

From my experiance a tail heavy PBF is just lke any other tail heavy plane, it snaps and buck and carries on like a mad woman

My 24X24" PBF is ballanced at 23% or 5.5" back from the leading edge. I find that this is the neutral point because I don't need any elevator trim changes to fly inverted. I used to fly it at nearly 6" back and it would tend to balloon when flying inverted. It was still very stable at this aft C.G. location (it would fly right side up 'hands off' very nicely), but I prefer not needing trim changes when flying inverted. Manueverability and hover stability appeared to be the same for both C.G. locations. Good luck with your PBF!
