Default Best open class spad?

By open class I mean .46 motor size and 5lb. weight limit. Everything considered, if you really want to win, what's the best one? I hope to hear from Tattoo on this one please, also.

Yep!

Or what Kraut calls a "Super Dagger" which is a Dagger fuselage and tail with a DPS wing. I'm also thinking of upscaling the HOR to a .40 sized combatter with a DPS wing and 1 1/2" aluminum L channel...just haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

BTW, winning has very little to do with what you fly. It has everything to do with how well you know what you are flying. I see guys constantly changing airplanes to the next latest greatest design and they still get their butts whipped...and I've seen guys consistantly do very well with older Spad designs and even Battle Floyds...because they know EXACTLY how they fly and can put them anywhere they want them any time. Timing is everything in combat. Speed and maneuverability are only secondary to knowing your aircraft.

Tattoo, forgive my ignorance, but by DPS you mean? My current thoughts are basically a 30'' fuse, 4' wing and typical tail setup. Aileron, rudder and throttle servos. These seem to fly without issue. And the last thing I need is more issues. What thinkest thou?

Bummer! Now I find out that for the past 33 years I've been wasting time and money on elevator servos.

Throttle (elevator),Rudder (for ground steering) and flybar.

You're right on the money with the basic Spads...48" DasPlasStick wing on a 30" Dagger fuselage. Forget rudder for combat. Ailerons, elevator and throttle are all you need to go whup some butt!

Geez, a little white wine and my brain falls right out. Of course I meant elevator, not rudder. Al least I was in the right area of the plane.

You guys quit complaining about being that old. I'm looking forward to being that old, so I can retire and fly all the time. ;-)

beardking, I am not complaining about being old, in fact I do retire in 20 months, and plan on wearing out the highway with my RV for a while, and fly a bunch, but I do wish being older didn't hurt so much.
