Snow Skis
Here are some skis a fellow modeler made. Here is his description:
Check out my ski design. I took a long stroke shock off a T-MAX, cut down some wood cross country skis, drilled a hole through a drawer handle, screwed in a eye hook, and wa la. The force of the wind cant force the ski tip up in flight because the shock is maxed out, and the back of the ski is not alowed to go down so the skis are level in flight. But when its on the ground, tail draggers can lean back and compress the spring under tension. Then you have a nice cushy, oil dampened, ride, That looks cool moving over the terrain, and works really good........... That is a real rossignol down hill ski on the twist. I cut it down the middle so it has a metal edge on the outsides of both.

Hi mnrcaerobat
Very nice looking skis and some good ideas. Have you tried the skis on snow yet? That plane does not look like a SPAD. Am I wrong?

There is no chloroplast in the plane. I just thought the post would be most welcomed by the spad forum. And yes, the skis have been tested and work good.

Nice skis!
Here is what I cobbled together in about 20 minutes.
Just a piece of 3/8" plywood, some coroplast and rubber bands with knots tied into them to get the correct tension. There is also a piece of coat hanger wire for a runner. As well, I waxed the bottoms with car wax to help slide on the snow.
They dont work as good as these ones, but they'll do!

My cheapy coro skis on my avistar, i just bolted them onto the original gear very tight so they stay at the angle i want, i find the snow gives enough cushion to not bother with any torsion or other suspension setup.

RE: Snow Skis
These are the Dubro skis on my SPAD Bi-Plane with OS46AX engine and 12X4 APC prop. That day I was too sick to go to the field, so I actually have not tried the skis out. Here in North Carolina we do not always get snow. Hope to do it this year.
