Default flipper on rails

hey guys i was looking around this forum and ran across a plane called the flipper and i decided to run with the design and work with what i had on hand and this is what i came up with. it is a 48" span "flipper on rails". the wing is made out of fan fold foam. to build it i took and cut out he wing outline using the fold of the foam as my LE. i then made a double layer spar out of fan fold with some solid fiberglass rod sandwiched in between the two pieces of foam. i then gorilla glued the spar into the wing top and bottom after pre-curving the foam with a length of 2" pvc pipe. i also glued the TE of the foam together then held it there with some packing tape. i then laid the wing on my garage floor and placed a 2x4 on top of it and set some sandbags on it to keep the wing nice and strait while the glue dried. the fuse is made up of a length of aluminum L bracket. i took the last 5-6 inches of the aluminum and placed it in my bench vise so that i could squish it together to mount my fin in between the sides. i then took and added a length of foam to the center section of the wing to help keep the 13" cord from collapsing from the rubber bands. and then put a layer of 4mm coro over the center section. also i took and used some strapping tape to help give the wing rigidity and capped the wing tips. i now have a wing that is very strong and i can lift the whole plane by a wing tip and it will not bend. for power i will be using an os 25fx. now before you say it i will be covering the wing in monokote to fuel proof it. so far the all up weight is 2 lbs 3 oz with out servos, battery, or rx. so i am guessing an all up weight some where around 3 lbs. the plan for this plane is open b combat.

what do you think of it?

Cool... but do you use wing warping? I dont see any control surfaces.

You might want to use Econocote or one of the low temp films so you don't have to jack up your heat too much and melt the foam.  I put a piece of blue FFF in a bowl, poured fuel all over it and left it over night and it didn't do anything to it.  I haven't experimented with burned fuel from exhaust yet, though.  It looks good though dude, keep us posted!

well its done i finished setting up the controls and radio and balanced it at 2" from the wing LE she weighs in at 3lbs dry with an 6 oz fuel tank

what do you think

the landing gear is just that for landings to prevent throttle servo damage

just finished the maiden and its first combat sorty. it fly's great tracks like it is on rails (pun intended) and also can be very docile when the controls are dumbed down. i also got my first cut with this plane today. roll rate is awesome and has good elevator authority. the launch was very uneventful she flew strait and level right out of my hand. i also used it to give one of my friends a taste of rc flying. that is how i found out it was so docile.

Cool, glad it works so well. Its basically a stretched wing Sickle and the Sickle was always a pretty decent combat plane though the wing loading was a bit higher. One of the reasons I stretched the wing. I think the Deluxe (40 size) would fly fine with a 25 in it where the 25 size is a bit heavy but quite a bit of fun anyways.

Don't forget to add it to the SPADs pictures post.
