SPAD DPS Pylon Racing in Idaho Falls with Video

1 Attachment(s)
The SPAD pylon race in Idaho Falls was spectacular to say the least. We had 13 pilots for the SPAD race, another 20 or so for the open house, and the parking lot was 3 rows deep with cars. So I would say close to 70 or more spectators. As for the racers, we had 4 clubs well represented with BARKS, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and even Pocatello!

Jim and Kim Williams put on a Friday night BBQ for all of us out of towners, and Kim even made a monster breakfast Saturday morning. I can't thank them enough for the hospitality, and even driving to the airport to pick up Roy and Bryan after they landed in Bryan's Cessna 172.

This year was some stiff competition, and BARKS went 1,2,3 with Jim Williams cutting a pylon on the next to last lap. We had Mike Ingram chewing on our tail feathers....well until he hit the pylon#2, and Dave Allen got beat out for the final heat by Jerry Kent by a mere 2 points. The spectators absolutely loved the action, complete with oooh's and awhhhhhh's as planes got close or nearly crashed. We even had 2 reporters from the local paper the Post Register, and we made the front page of C-1 in the Sunday Paper!!!

I have attached a group pic, and even the links on youtube that shows some of the action taken by a non-flier who wants to learn to fly now that he has seen the action. In the second video, you just catch Mike Ingram nailing the pylon! So spectacular was the hit, he won the 1st annual Turkey trophy for best wreck!

We even had a 14 year old pilot who has only been flying for less than a year compete, and did a great job too, and is looking forward to our race at BARKS in Sept.
So build a SPAD DPS, throw on a Magnum/ASP .52 or OS 55 and come join us. The Next race is in Ontario, Oregon in August. Let me know if you need help ,and we can get you on the right track. It's a blast, and the sport is growing by leaps and bounds.

Bryan
