1/12 P51 Check it out guys

1 Attachment(s)
Scratch built from coroplast (corugated plastic)... 5 formers, 2 yard sticks for spars, zero ribs... Took me and my buddy 2 8 hour days from start to finish.

Maidened it today, flys like a rocket. Pretty agile but not quite as stable as the mig i use to have. Looking forward to many kills with this baby.

Plane speed is estimated at 90MPH, haven't clocked this one yet

Total cost for plane: 30 dollars (with enough material to build 2 more just like it)

Here is the setup:

O.S. 25 with tuned pipe and "mousse can"
2 HS-225 servos (aileron and elevator)
1 JR SM-35 (throttle)
Master airscrew 9x4
Flying weight : 2.4 LB

Shoot me with comments or questions if ya'll got em!

Looks awesome, nice job. What is the canopy made of?

hitcttd 02-13-2006 03:43 PM

RE: 1/12 P51 Check it out guys

Canopy is an actual WWII canopy, i think even made just for the mustang. My buddy builds these to sell so he has a bunch of them. 3 bucks, can't go wrong. Comes clear but i painted it opaque because there isn't much to show off under the canopy.

What a beautiful plane! Wicked trim job!

I'm afraid that if it were mine, I would just hang it on the ceiling and look at it!

Your score, on a scale of 0-10 is:

10:D:D:D[8D]

Blue skies,

RE: 1/12 P51 Check it out guys

thanks for all the compliments...

plane was scratch drawn from various pictures of P-51s. The wing spar is taken from another plane we already have. The rest is like i said hand drawn trial and error. I worked with a guy I recently met, he's been doing this for 7 years, taught me all his little secrets. What seperates this coroplast one from others is the concious effor to make everything round. Even the bottom of the fuselage. In any case the plans are both mine and his so i'll have to ask him if it's okay to release them. I'm going to get video soon, but if any of you guys want one we sell them at the LHS for 100$ . A little steep in price but it's well worth it, if not for combat then for just sport flying.

The next project we're working on is shrinking the current p-51 by 10 percent to make it a little faster and more agile. Our goal is to make it light enough for even electric dudes to get their hands on. One that i'm personally working on is getting a Mitsubishi zero up so we can re-create pearl harbor  hope to have that up in a month or so.

Shoot if you guys have any questions i'd love to answer them...

Beautiful job! Must have a monster of an engine, 90 miles per hour with a 4 pitch prop works out to about 24,000 rpm!

.25 from OS with a tuned pipe and that mousse can... you can't go bigger for combat

Similar but not the same plane.

RE: 1/12 P51 Check it out guys

yeah it isn't the same plane... I'd release the plans to you guys except half of them aren't mine... The guy i worked with to design the plans won't release them at any cost. I am however working on a Mitsubishi zero to go along with the mustang... I'll test fly the plane, post pictures, and release plans when that project is done...

Happy buildling...

It's a shame some people don't want to share info in such a fun hobby.
oh well, to each there own.
Can't wait till You get Your Zero done, Your CoroStang looks awesome.

not running your plane down, cause it looks great . The only noticable difference between it and a corostang is the rounded part of the nose. Glue the nose of a regular old corostang to something the right size and round, and you've got basicly the same plane.

qwert808 08-29-2016 11:28 AM

can you release the plans for this or the zero?
