RE: Sacramento Area Modelers Race June 12th - Pylonpalooza
What a great day for racing! My wife and I had such a great day. It was a lot of work but was really worth it. I just wanted to thank everybody for coming and especially the workers. I had no idea what a great help they all are until putting on this race. Thank you to my wife, J.R. and Ollie for all the help. By the way, sorry about your mustang Ollie ( I'm really getting tired of saying sorry about your airplanes). I hope everybody had a great time. I learned a lot, made a few mistakes but I'm learning and next year will hopefully be even better.
On a side note, I couldn't have done any better on the weather Jake (my fair weather flying friend). I'm am very happy for you taking 1st place for the first time at "the palooza". I'm glad you made the trip down here for my first attempt at throwing a race.

You did a "Bang Up" job with the race Casey. It went smooth and I think all the pilots had a great time. Its nice to have the help of some of the veteran CDs when you are the new kid on the block. Great job on the weather too!
Sure am glad to have that 1st place monkey off my back. Accomplishing it at your first race is gravy on the biscuit! Now I can just finish out the year in Bronze and start working on getting my silver plane ready for next year. Congrats on doing so well in your own race, by the way .
The racing may be the main reason for making the drive, but the festivities the night before is what really makes the trip worthwhile. The food, the drinks, and jaw flappin sets a primo mood for the day to come. For those that have not made it for the pre-racing evening event, you are really missing out. For July I am torn between another batch of my "T-Gun Slappin" salsa or busting out the smoker for some pulled pork. Either way, it will still leave Tommy in shame. Maybe I should do a poll. So don't worry Jimmy, unless I have a cowlick, hang nail, or split ends, I should be there in July.

Thanks Casey, but eventhough it was another hard loss, I still had a lot of fun. (Only4 servos and 1 retractunit survived.Aside from that, itwas a total write-off.) I'll be back with another plane . . . one way or another! Just can't miss out on all the fun.
Congratulations on both a very successful race, and on your 1st place finish in Silver!

Thanks guys. It's good to hear that everybody had a great time because that is the main reason for doing these races. Ollie, I'm glad you told me you have another airplane to race in July. We need ya there and not just because of those after racing beverages. I loved the video Tommy! Who ever took that video did a great job.

Can someone explain to me how the start and finish of a heat is timed? Does it start at the end of the count down clock and all the individual timers start there stop watches or does it start when each plane crosses the start line

Hi Babe,
There is a 45 second recorded countdown that is started once all planes for the race are in the air.
At zero the official starter pushes a single button that starts the clocks for ALL racers.
The racers run the ten laps for a race, and when they cross the line for their final lap, the assigned lap counter goes to the appropriate timing station and pushes the button to stop the clock for the racer they were timing.
Each lane has an individual button for the purpose of stopping the clock for that lane.
We have removed the individual stop watches from the timers and have simplified their task by making it such that they only have to STOP the timer for their lane. The new electronic timing system we implemented last year has proven to be very accurate and reliable.

Ok I understand it now. Thanks for the explaination. I've put my plane back together but haven't had a chance to test fly it, hope to be there for the next race and put up a better show

Babe,
Just tell Speed to keep out of your way and everything should be good.

Hahaha Jimmy, Babe and I raced against one another a couple decages ago. He is fully aware that if he happens to be flying faster then me I'm not moving!!! He has to find a way around and vice versa. I wish other pilots realized " Old school racing" LOL
