Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
I just noticed that no one has started a thread about this race so I thought I would. We need to support this event any way possible!
This is an awesome field with awesome people that have traveled to our races and supported us for years. I for one have been looking foward to this event more that ANY other. I will be leaving Friday to head up to Predicted 90 deg weather (Acording to the current forcast) If anyone needs their equipment hauled up I would be happy to put in in my trailer and you can then caravan up to save fuel costs.
I really hope to see many of the skilled pilots that attend the SAM races make their way up. You won't be sorry.
Thanks everyone!
Dave

Can't vouch for the skilled pilot part, but I will be there. It is roughly the same distance for me, just go north on 5 instead of south. See ya there.

RE: Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
I've already got a room booked. Now I'm scurrying to get two planes finished for the event, so I have something to fly while there.
Jim Sweeney and I finished repairing my o-l-d Red Baron that I wrecked last year. I've stripped the covering and paint off, and am nearly done recovering. Hope to finish covering the wing and start painting, tomorrow.
I am also slapping together an ARF - a Hanger 9 Corsair. I've epoxied all the wing sections together; fiberglassed the two joints; and recovered the wing over the areas of covering that had to be removed for the reinforcement. My canopy was smashed (NIB), but Hanger 9 was awesome and sent me a new one, even though the ARF had been untouched in a closet for 4 years. (Good customer service from those guys!) But this is all I've gotten done on it, so far.
To better answer your question, Dave . . . I'm going up with Casey Smith and Todd Chandler. We plan to leave about 7am Saturday, so should arrive at the flying site around noon, or just before. So there's 3 more Sacramento pilots for ya'! See you and Jake there!
You bringin' chips and salsa, Jake?!

RE: Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
Just finished her at 5 pm today. Put a tank of fuel in her, so far so good. I'll have to maiden her when I get to Redding, tomorrow.
(And yes guys, before somebody says something about it: I know that Red Baron is supposed to have a #5. I didn't have time to make a new stencil, so my old #7 will have to do. Now Loren, try not to hit THIS #7, too, okay!? ) Hey Loren, in all seriousness, outstanding job on the prizes!
Didn't get the Corsair done, though. Oh well. Hopefully all goes well, once I'm up there.
See you all there.

RE: Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
A Huge thank you to all of the ASH CREEK CLUB!!!. The event was a big sucess to say the least. Good racing, Good food, Good People and Good fun. The weather was awesome as well. Although I had one of the overall worst weekends racing, I sure had lots of fun. One thing that was really noticible to me was how many guys rallyed to help their fellow racer in need with parts ect. You guys are second to NONE!
Congrats to all of the lucky winners and my sorrows go out to all of the less lucky that lost planes. Get over it and start building/repairing as we have another event at the SAM field in less than 1 month.

I just wanted to say "Thank you" to Loren, Jim, and all the Ash Creek flyers and workers. Even though I wrecked before the race and wasn't able to actually compete, I still had a great time. You were fantastic hosts, and made us all feel very much at home.
Loren and Jim, congratulations on such a successful first race event. I can't wait for the 2nd Annual Flyin' Ash Fast! (I'd love to see it count towards the SAM series annual points. Perhaps then, when one wins you get even more substantial bragging rights, as you've now become the Northern California Racing Champion? We shall see.)

RE: Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
I was just going thru my photos and video from the race day. Thanks for the help Ollie. I will try to get images up in a couple days.
Hey all you guys from Redding, If anyone found a MiniDV cassette near the south pit entrance, It is probably the one that fell out of my camera bag.
I had a lot of the racing action from the day on that cassette. [:@]

RE: Ash Creek Warbird Race, Who's Going?
Can I say WOW where did all the people come from!!!!! it was a great weekend and it was made easier and funner by the Sams group. "Kimo you crack my ASH up". I left the sign the way you spelled it..lol JR, John, Skids thanks for the help and the rest of SAMS group thanks for making this event special.
Jr Since we didn't meet in the finial's and your plane was in a mid-air and I didn't fuel up before the finials and ran out of fuel on lap 5 brother I don't know how you do it this is a lot of work.our BUT IT'S FUN.
Next year reserve your calander for the 1st or 2nd weekend in June and even perhaps an octoberfest race we could play quarters with german girls serving adult pops.
If you missed this race Don't next year.
Thanks to everyone I had so much fun but I'm so friggen tired but it was all worth it.

Had a great time and learned a lot. Everyone in Anderson was a great host and I made a couple new friends in the area. Hope to see you northern boys at the SAM race in July. Here are some of my pics.

Well I to would also like to thank all the Ash Creek Club members for a great week end. The racing was good, but the host club members were excellent. I had a great time and really enjoyed the entire event. Congratulations to the Loren and the rest of the Ash Creek Flyers for putting together an A+ event.
