Thats an A200. The heads have been machined down, the crank has had the balancers cut off. All together it saved about 1.75 lbs. The unlimited minimum weight rule is 25 lbs. My old Stiletto set up near identical is 36 lbs. This one came in at 29.6 lbs. I opted for the big elec retracts and saved around 6 ozs.
Im happy with it and will see how she turns being this light. As with any pylon racing, its all about the turns.

Thank you Speed. It was good to see you and the family.
The new plane flew pretty good. Many thanks to all involved.
Special thanks to Callie Graphics for their support and design of the specially sized graphics!

Cool plane, but you're missing a prop up there

RE: Lets see your 2013 rides
Well at the beginning of the year I had not expected to have any new airplanes for the 2013 season. This is racing however and things change fast. In the first two races of the season I have lost the two airplanes I had. I decided to build up another Macchi for the Rossi .45. I am in the process of making a plug and mold for a gold/unlimited Macchi but that is a ways off but because of that project I decided not to build up another airplane for the Rossi .61. After 3 weeks this is what I have. The fuse will be finish sanded tomorrow and then the glassing will start. I hope to be spraying primer on the fuse and applying covering to the wing this coming weekend.

Well Jimmy that was the plan but I need to get somthing in the air quickly. The plugs for the all composite Macchi are almost done. In fact the canopy on the pictured airplane mas made from the mold I took off the fuse plug. Trust me I will be rounding the pylons with a gold airplane eventually. Until then JR can keep you busy LOL

I just finished my newest Gold plane. Modeled (sort of) after the Anson Johnson Race 45. Scratch built around some foam cores I got from Jason Vernon. YS 115. I have 4 flights on it so far. Still zeroing in on the throws and CG. Quite fast but not turning the way I want yet. Hoping to have it dialed in soon.
Blessings, Terry

That would be great Marty. I guess I should ask Jason where he had planned for it to be. Richard had a plane with this wing on it. He said he loved the way it turned. That's what prompted me to order a set of cores in the first place. This wing may be a little smaller than the one you have but I think it is the same airfoil. I believe that Jason designed it to meet the minimum squares for a 115 on SAM's wing area chart.
It was fun building something other than an ARF for a change. Looking for something else cool to build now. Might do a round nose next.
Blessings, Terry

I ordered the smaller but evidently that is not what I got. This one is 55" span, 13-1/2" center and 6" tip. That's 536.25 Sq in less the notch. I went 25% of mean chord which put me at 4" back at the side of the fuse. It is just not solid in the turns yet. I'm going to keep experimenting and hopefully get it right. It will behave if I back off enough elevator but that is not the way I like to fly. Right now my P51 B will eat it's lunch in the turns and smile while doing it.

RE: Lets see your 2013 rides
Ok I went and measured mine (and it is definately the older "bigger version" than what I have heard is now out there. W/S - 55.5", Chord - 14.5", Tip - 6".
It turns great and carries good speed. Not sure why yours isnt. My plane with the 115 weighed right or a bit heavier than 8lbs. My tail section is all airfoiled, fuse cut down with turtle deck and shorter as well. Cross section is same as WM stang. I believe my throws on elv were around 5/16" maybe a bit more. Havent flown it in a year.
I hope you get it figured out, I would love to see you on the course and happy with that.

Yeah, that puts your wing at about 568 less the notch so I guess I do have the small wing. It tends to dive in the turns. I added a couple Quarters to the right wing tip and it helped some so I will add some more next time and see if I can get it right. I'm sure I'll get it figured out, just not in love with it yet. Mine weighs in at 7lbs, 6oz dry. With a 16oz tank I'm at 8 1/2lb ready to fly.
Thanks for the info!

This Mustang has Jasons wing as well. It meets the 515 requirement. Jim said the CG should be 5'' back from the front of the saddles. Battery is under the tank and CGd perfectly. Plan to test fly on Friday with ''B'' engine.

Thanks for the info. My CG is evidently way too far forward. That should explain the difficulty I'm having with it. I'm probably running way to much elevator if I'm that nose heavy. I may move the engine back some to see if I can get the CG back some without having to add too much weight. My battery is already at the back of the wing. May just add some weight to the tail for this weekend just to see how she flies.
Looking forward to a report from you maiden.
Blessings, Terry
